Crocheted Baby Sweater With Scallop Stitch

Crocheted Baby Sweater With Scallop Stitch

Introducing a super sweet crocheted scallop stitch baby sweater that’s really quite simple to make but looks great! Mazel Tov! A new baby in the extended family means I get to spend a little time whipping up some crocheted gifts, something I’ve been wanting to do for months, so I’m certainly not complaining.

I love how this little sweater turned out, though we all had to laugh as I was weaving in the ends in the car on the way to the hospital to visit mom and baby, and took this photo on one of the tables at the rest stop! I have to say though, I love the wooden backdrop, something I couldn’t find at home.

I opted to make the sweater a tie closure rather than buttons, as I didn’t even have a spare moment to look for buttons. Practically speaking, one might want to make two ties as opposed to one, but I love the simplicity of just one little bow.

Crochted Scallop Stitch Baby Sweater back

Here it is from the back. And even if the baby never wears this sweater, it sure would look adorable hanging on a little hanger in the baby’s room, don’t you think?

You can find the pattern for this sweater here on mooglyblog. And note that I changed things a bit with the color use, and followed that pattern as far as length, while she made hers longer. A longer sweater looks better to the eye certainly, but isn’t necessarily in keeping with a baby’s proportions and may be more like a sweater coat, which is great too!

You can find more information about making the sweet little hat, on my post here.

While I wasn’t watching the clock exactly, this sweater was made 0n one very late night, and finished in the car, totaling about five and a half hours. And of course the next time it will go much quicker as I’ll already be familiar with the pattern. Funny enough, I even ran out of blue yarn to finish one of the sleeves, and ran into the yarn store as we were beginning our journey! And that my friends is called crafting on the go, one of my favorite ways to use little pockets of time! Do let me know if you give this sweater a try!

Thanks so much, this was awhile ago, but more on the way, and my neighbors daughter just had twin boys, identical, so maybe I need to get crocheting!
