The Perfect Crocheted Heart Ornament For Any Time!

Crocheted Heart Ornament

Last week I had a vision of making my daughter a winter scarf with tiny crocheted hearts, based on an afghan stitch I’d seen. Well, that vision wasn’t realized as nicely as I’d hoped when I tried out that stitch (I’ll share it with you, not to worry!) so then I decided to try out a granny square with a heart in the middle. On the second attempt, I arrived at this adorable crocheted heart, with a fun dimensional flower in the center, and decided to stop there! And that my friends is how this cute crocheted heart ornament to was born. Yupp, no heart scarf in sight, but I do believe there will be a fun crocheted hearts wall hanging that I hope will look sweet over her bed! I even purchased some chunky yarn in colors to match her new comforter cover, so I believe it will happen!

To make this heart follow the pattern here. My flower formed in row two is much more pronounced than that in the link, which is correct as a popcorn stitch is specified. I used chunky yarn and a size I/5.50mm hook, which gives a nice tight result. (Just tried the same pattern with a J/6mm hook and the results aren’t as nice.)

Addition to pattern: After completing final round of Row 4 in pattern, turn and slip stitch back to the very middle of the heart. Chain 15 and then join to base of chain with a slip stitch. Cut yarn and weave in ends. Enjoy just about anytime, hearts always look great, and if you’d rather not have the association with the American holiday coming up in February, so make your hearts in colors other than red!

I just picked out my colors for this and know right where I want to hang them! But I also can’t read that site and it would be way more clear if you wrote out a pattern for how you made these then linking to the granny square. I’m so bummed! These are so cute!

Ladies. I’ve deciphered the diagram. I hope everyone can understand my pattern write up. Using the US abbreviations, I think I’ve put it together so you can make the heart charm.
    Hanging heart charm w/flower center
Rnd 1:Chain 5 (counts as first dc and ch1sp). *Dc into first ch. ch 1* repeat 6 times more. Sl at into 4th chain, leaving the ch1 space. (8dc, 8-ch1 spaces)
Rnd2: ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch1 sp) *popcorn stitch in ch 1 space. Dc in next dc. Ch1* repeat 7 times. Popcorn stitch in last ch1 sp, sl st into 3rd beginning ch. (8 popcorns, 8dc)
If you choose to change colors, sl st into where you finished rnd2
Rnd3: ch1, sc in 1st ch sp, sk popcorn, in dc- sc, hdc,dc,tc. 4tc in next ch sp. 3tc in next dc. 2dc in ch sp. hdc and sc in next dc. Sc and hdc in ch sp. 2dc, ch1, tc in next dc. Ch 1, 2dc in ch sp. hdc an sc in next dc. Sc an hdc in next ch sp. 2dc in next dc. 3 tc in next ch sp. 4 tc in next dc. Tc,dc,hdc,sc in next ch sp. sc in next dc. Sl at into first sc.

Hello Juli ~ thank you so much for writing out the pattern; however, is there a Round 4? Sara refers to it when she added “Addition to pattern: after completing the final round of Row 4” so was wondering if you were aware of a Round 4. Thank you.
