Chocolate spoons with sprinkles made using silicone molds are a fun way for kids to get involved in the kitchen, and they are amazing way to finish off a delicious meal or as a part of a dessert bar. Plus they are one of those things that are simple to make but look really impressive. Adding the sprinkles was my idea as a simple way to make them look more festive, and I just love the results! My daughter actually made about 40 of these for a sheva brachas that i made just before Purim, and I had put aside a few in the freezer to photograph. Now a month later I unearthed them as I was cleaning out the freezer for Passover!
Speaking of Passover, these would be fun to make for Passover, and if you can't find kosher for Passover sprinkles, so improvise with some chopped nuts!
- silicone spoons mold
- dark chocolate or the cholocate of your choice
- peanut butter (optional) and of course for Passover only for those who eat kitniot
Melt chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave
Put a few sprinkles into the mold and spoon melted chocolate into mold. To add some peanut butter to the spoon portion, pour a little chocolate into the mold, add a little peanut butter and then pour some more chocolate on top. A bit more work and less crisp looking results but of course delicious! Put mold in the freezer to set, and then make some more!
Whoops almost forgot! How to use these spoons? Well some folks serve them as the actual spoon together with a small cup of mousse, we have placed them into a scoop of ice cream which looks great, or you could simply serve as is. No one will complain if you don't come up with something brilliant, as they are fun as is!
