Parenting Series Part 5: Raising Children To Care About You.

Chodesh tov! Today is the first day of the month of Adar Sheni. And fortunately for us, that means that we've got another great installment in the parenting series written by Eydl Reznik. Eydl asked me what I'd like to learn about, and I said "getting kids to listen", since I've been having that challenge lately with a few of my children. As you can probably imagine, the solutions aren't simple, and this is really a large topic that raises many very important parenting issues. As parents we all want to raise children who will do good things and make moral choices, but how about showing them that wanting goodness for the sake of the world is exciting and exhilarating, and gives one a greater purpose? It's never too early to start teaching our children even great concepts like these, and along the way they will choose to listen to you. How does that work exactly? Spend a few minutes and read this months parenting series installment, definitely time well spent.

Parenting Series: Part 4— Reading Between The Lines Of An ADHD Diagnosis.

Chodesh Tov! Wishing you all a wonderful and joyful new month, on today, the first day of the Jewish month of Adar. And Rosh Chodesh also means another installment in Eydl Reznik's excellent parenting series, right here, since creativity and parenting go hand in hand.

This month's lesson is an invaluable wake up call to all parents whose children have been diagnosed with ADHD. As it turns out, the ADHD diagnosis is often given to children who have a different problem altogether. The good news however, is that your child's problem may be something that can be resolved, given a proper assessment and diagnosis. So I'd say don't walk, run to read this month's lesson— you may be able to help a precious child, yours or someone else's, start living life to its fullest, and without the quite possibly incorrect label ADHD.

Parenting Series: Part 3—Meeting Basic Needs

Chodesh Tov! Wishing you all a wonderful new month of Shevat. Rosh Chodesh now means that in place of Parsha Parenting, this week we have another installment in the wonderful parenting series written by Eydl Reznik.

This month we learn how focusing on meeting the basic physical needs of our entire family (including ourselves) can help our children achieve optimal emotional happiness and physical health. And interestingly enough, how the cycle of basic human needs, now confirmed by modern medicine, was in fact written about by the Jewish scholar, the Rambam, over 1000 years ago! Amazing food for thought, and hopefully a push in the right direction for all of us, to take our family's health seriously, and make the changes that are necessary. No one said it's easy, but ignoring the facts can make things even more difficult. Take some time and read this article and we'd love to hear what you think!

Parenting Series: Part 2: Jewish Standard Time!

Chodesh Tov! Wishing you all a wonderful new month, on today the first day of the month of Tevet. One of the things we now have to look forward to each Rosh Chodesh is the new parenting series written by Eydl Reznik, also the author of the weekly Parsha Parenting series!

This month's lesson will leave you with plenty to contemplate regarding parenting in the modern age, and will hopefully get you thinking about how to embrace Jewish family values in your home, in the face of myriad distractions that somehow eat up all of our time. I think this lesson is something one could read a few times at least, there's so much information packed into every sentence. So take the time to review the concepts and even discuss them with your family, and lets all work on being the best parents we can be this winter!

Introducing A New Jewish Parenting Series!

Dear Readers, it is with great excitement that I am finally able to bring the wisdom of some wonderful parenting experts to this blog! It has always been my intention to share as many aspects of my life with you as possible, and parenting is certainly one of them. Creativity isn't just about crafting, it's also about working on ourselves to become the very best parents we can be, and as you probably know, this isn't alway so simple. Where to start? Who to listen to? Can I do it?

My first guest writer, Mrs. Eydl Reznik is an amazing wellspring of knowledge regarding parenting and specializes in comprehensive evaluations and treatment options for children diagnosed wtih AD/HD and dyslexia. I'm so very happy that she's agreed to guest post here every Rosh Chodesh as well as weekly for a series called Parsha Parenting— an overview of the weekly parsha with concise points regarding its relevance to parenting.
