The Right Track – B’Derech HaMelech is a think-tank, evaluation and referral service, dealing with the modern therapeutic and curative options available for learning and behavior challenges, AD/HD and dyslexia. We are a team of Jewish, orthodox professionals-- teachers, psychologists and therapists, all of who are also parents of large families. The staff is also highly experienced in the field of Torah education.
This team has spent the last fifteen years compiling medical, nutritional, educational and psychological research-data, and is constantly reviewing and updating the data available. This thorough approach leads parents and educators to information and resources that can increase their own knowledge, as well as public-awareness on these issues. Providing proper parenting and teaching techniques that help guide children suffering from these challenges into becoming productive and happy students, with or without medication, is part of the organization’s goal. This includes, but is not limited to, understanding the myriad medical, psychological and educational factors that affect children and adults suffering from the symptoms associated with dyslexia and AD/HD.
Some potential causes of the underlying factors which affect children’s learning and behavior problems are: sleep disorders; vision and auditory integration issues; blood sugar imbalances, food sensitivities and nutritional deficiencies; issues of giftedness and the creative personality; lax parenting; many various undiagnosed medical conditions such as mild epilepsy, chronic anemia, etc; trauma and more, all of which can mimic the symptoms of AD/HD or dyslexia. With proper diagnosis, care and therapy, all of these conditions are manageable or curable. Doctors as well as rabbis have helped compile the information gathered by the organization and have successfully implemented the use of various differential diagnoses, through our team’s work.
The group's purpose is to guide concerned parents and teachers, laymen as well as professionals in the healing arts, towards modern medical treatments, therapies, diets, and educational techniques that are available today, that often change the entire behavior and learning pattern of the child. These are methods of treating the core of the actual problems, with parents sometimes seeing results within days, others weeks, and others within a few short months. The most recent medical research suggests that only 2% of the Western world has AD/HD from actual brain dysfunction. Many more children are being diagnosed and medicated than these studies can account for. If there is an option of properly diagnosing, treating and curing a child's condition that mimics AD/HD or dyslexic symptoms, which parent (or teacher, or doctor) would not want that option for his child? In this way the child is able to flourish in the educational system, they understand themselves and their own needs, have proper behavior control and learn to enjoy their own productivity.
The Right Track– B’Derech HaMelech AD/HD & Dyslexia Division: How We Work
The goal of our service is to help you, the parent of the child, identify the issues specific to your child’s difficulties, and implement the strategies that will best help him or her. You can improve your child’s performance in school, educational level, level of concentration, acceptance of authority, mood swings, social relationships, and self-confidence through our team’s recommendations.
Our initial in-take is done by questionnaire. We assess the child and then provide our evaluation and recommendations during an extensive (phone) interview during which we review, with you, the various options available to you and your child (or student), and explain how these methods are implemented and how they will help your particular situation. These recommendations will always be unique to each individual, as each child will be experiencing a different set of givens. Children with behavior and/or learning problems are especially helped, and many of their symptoms disappear, after being addressed by our team.
Through referrals to appropriate doctors/therapists in your country, and through personal contact and training sessions, (by phone or in person), our facilitators provide tools and strategies that can be implemented at home and in school. We empower parents to be able to understand and advocate for their child’s strengths and weaknesses, so that parent and child work together as a team. Teachers, as well, learn how to identify potential problems in the classroom, in order to refer parents to the appropriate ways to help their child.
The following services are available for individual families:
- Complete Multi-Modal Evaluation of Child or Adult: $185
- Written summary of the evaluation and recommendations: $30.
The following services are available for groups:
B'Derech HaMelech trains teachers and principals at teachers' meetings, under the auspices of school administrations, in order to have early signs of medical conditions be recognized in the classroom.
- AD/HD Teacher-Training Presentations and Workshops (available in Israel only): 600 shekels for each 2 hour presentation.
Representatives of the B'Derech HaMelech team have presented at the Nefesh Conference of Orthodox Mental Health Professionals in Jerusalem, have printed articles in English and Hebrew magazines on the subject and have personally been involved in many children’s and teenagers’ successes.
