Okay Mom, finally a project just for you! And this one is so quick and simple you can surely fit it into your busy schedule. And you'll thank me for making you do it!
That said, glass paint never quite worked for me until this project. The results I had achieved brushing it on to a glass surface definately weren't news worthy! And then I read that for the best coverage, one should use a small sponge to apply glass paint. Ah ha! I said to myself, this must be the secret I've been looking for! And sure enough, here's the proof! The use of a sponge allows one to achieve a beautifully mottled and delicate coat of color, and there is no risk of drips as long as you don't overload the sponge with paint.
You'll Need:
- ready-made candles in jars: 48 hr size or which ever size you prefer
- small jars of glass paint in a collection of colors to match your table or decor
- dense sponge, like a makeup sponge or magic sponge (sfog pele)
- beads (beaded necklaces from the dollar store can be a great source, or raid your own jewelry drawer!) and string or wire for stringing
- if your glass paint is oil based, like mine, you may need some turpentine for clean-up
How To:
- Remove any labels with boiling hot water and soap. Dry.
- Pour a small amount of glass paint onto a disposable plate.
- Gently dip a small piece of dense sponge into the paint and start sponging the color onto the glass.
- Use a light touch, you can always add more color, but taking it off is difficult.
- Cover entire jar with an even coat of color, and examine work from afar to make sure you haven't missed any spots.
- Allow to dry according to manufacturer's instructions.
- String beads onto wire or fish line and make elegant necklaces for your candles — the finishing touch!
- Place in a group, or scattered along the length of your table, and light anytime for instant ambience!
Make yourself a collection of stunning jewel-toned candle jars this summer, and your life can always be a party at a moment's notice! Hurry, I'm coming over now!
