Are you lucky enough to have a table outdoors? Or are you planning a garden/patio party in the near future? Why not grace your table with a beautiful centerpiece made from an assortment of summer annuals? Small containers of summer flowers sold in flats are quite inexpensive and you can use them to give color and charm to your next gathering. (If you pack them together as I have, the flowers will need repotting into something much larger after about two weeks.)
As for the container, well you didn't guess that "potted flowers" meant actually planting them in a cooking pot did you? This vintage enamel cooking pot (with a hole in the bottom for drainage) makes a really festive statement when paired with a floral tablecloth (actually a vintage sheet). So use your imagination to come up with a unique container, and your sense of color to compose unique arrangements of potted flowers. And when the party is over, you'll have some wonderful new plants for your garden.
If you can, make your potted flower arrangements about a week or two before the party in order to give the plants some time to fill out a bit. You will probably need some extra soil, so if you don't have any on hand, make sure to buy a small bag.
Visual displays like these are one of the simple joys of summer, so treat yourself!
