A while back when I made some cute but small flower pin cushions, I realized it was about time that I actually tried to design something myself. So here it is, a sculptural three tiered pin cushion!
Yes, it does look like it arrived from outer space, and I have been using it and can tell you that it's actually quite nice having something a bit larger than the average pin cushion....easier to use and less likely to get lost amidst your craft supplies! Plus I think it would make a great gift for anyone.....this one is actually going to my sister-in-law (shhhhh....) for keeping needle and thread, safety pins and straight pins at hand.
How To:
- Follow the instructions for making the center of the flower pin cushion here, just omit the petals. I made three discs, the smallest 5 rows, the medium size 8 rows and the large size 11 rows. Row count is before the row which joins the top and bottom of each disc.
- Join your discs with a piece of yarn which joins a stack of three buttons on the top (the upper most one is shaft button, which just looks cute) to one large button on the bottom of the stack. You'll need a needle that's long enough to go through all three discs, or if you don't have one, so join one disc at a time to the stack.
- Make a pin cushion in colors to match your decor and you'll enjoy leaving it out at a cute decorative accessory that's also useful!
