If you happen to be paying attention I guess you've already figured out that I got bitten by the crochet bug! Sorry about that for those of you who don't crochet, but maybe you'll learn and join in on the fun? You are really missing out, believe me! And it's definitely a lot easier than learning to ski or play the piano I'd say....plus you can practice any time....in the car, in line, during a commute on the train.....and then, instead of practicing during those times, you'll eventually be able to crochet something!
This little Chanukah gelt or gift bag is a great project for beginners, or a nice and quick project for those more experienced with crochet. You could make it with a shoulder strap as well...it's the perfect size for a cell phone and keys. And if you happen to sew, so you could spend just a bit more time and make a wonderful lining, which will bring this small gift over the top!
You'll Need:
- Lion Brand Cotton in five colors, available in Israel at livyahyarn.com
- Appropriately sized crochet hook, like a J or H
- Ribbon or cord to use as a drawstring, or crochet one!
How To:
This is a simple little pattern that I made up myself, and you can find it right here. The dimensions of the finished bag, lying flat are roughly 5" wide by 7" long. If you'll be giving this as a gift to someone who might want to use it as a little purse, I'd recommend measuring the height as you go, and make the drawstring row accordingly, such that there will be ample room for a cellphone to fit in nicely....because you're nice like that, and of course you do want your gift to be practical!
ps: I was just thinking how great a little pouch like this would look crocheted in your best friend's favorite color, with a contrasting or even patterned ribbon.....I'd love one in aqua and one in orange, thanks!
