Simple Origami Jumping Frogs For Passover

Origami Frogs For Kids Passover

Origami frogs, namely simple origami jumping frogs, that you and the kids can make in just a few minutes each, are the perfect craft for the Passover seder. And of course they’d work very nicely with the origami pyramids I posted about last week! Teach the kids how to make them, and then let them make a small army of little frogs to throw everywhere during the plagues portion of the seder. Sounds fun to me! And these frogs may even jump (or do somersaults as mine did!) just a bit when you press down on the fold just above their rear legs, which makes this craft just a bit more exciting.

Origami Frogs for passover

You’ll Need:

  • green paper, the large dark green frog was made with an A4 sheet, which is a nice size, though is too heavy to jump, you’ll need rectangles, not classic origami squares
  • red or neon any color paper for tongues (optional)
  • markers, I used black and gel pens
  • this tutorial for folding your little froggy friends

Have fun with this one, I’m off to spend the rest of the day cleaning and organizing and maybe teaching my kids this craft….my daughter has already spotted it and is ready to go, so I imagine your kids may feel the same. And at this point, they’d probably rather craft than clean right? A fair trade off I’d say!

what’s with your title? You are perpetuating a stereotype..can’t you simply be a creative Mom?

I wanted to be just a creative mom, but that title was taken, and honestly I wasnt identifying with the stereotype at all, but rather making myself accessible to those seeking Jewish crafts etc.
I myself wasnt so sure about the title, but honestly in the almost three years Ive been blogging youre the first one to ever have a problem with it, and in fact most people have responded positively.
And there are tons of creative moms out there, the fact that Im Jewish and live in Israel sets me apart, so its sort of important to say that in the title.

Hi, I came across your blog while looking for ideas for a frog storytime. I love your origami frogs! They would be great for a craft after storytime. 🙂
I would like to invite you to link your post to my Frog ABC’S Blog Hop. My blog is for librarians, teachers, caregivers, and parents of young children who love to explore topics through Activities, Books, Crafts and Snacks (ABC’S). I think your frog post fits in perfectly as a Craft, don’t you?

I think it is completely ridiculous that anyone would criticize you for the title of your blog. You are creative. You are Jewish. You are a Mom. The title sounds pretty perfect to me. I am myself a Jewish mom. I don’t think you are perpetuating a stereotype at all. I think @Andrea Rouda was just looking for the perfect spot to advertise a link to that article and found you. Her statement is ridiculous and I just wanted you to know how I felt…. and I think the majority of us feel that way. Keep on doing what you do. 🙂

Dear Shana: No, I really did think it was perpetuating the stereotype of a “Jewish mother.” Imagine saying “Creative Baptist Mom” or Creative Catholic Mom” and you’ll see how odd it is.

    Hi Sara!
I work for the Mary Baker Eddy Library in Boston and we are having kids make origami frogs just like this for an art activity. Would it be okay if we used your photo above to use as an example on the craft tables? (The one without the tongues?) If so could I credit you by writing Photo by Sara Rivka, and the year? Heres a link to what we have in store. 🙂
