Isn't this giant crocheted granny square rug made with t-shirt yarn wonderful? I can't take credit for it though, that goes to a reader Anneke Wiese in South Africa, who has been busy crocheting using my giant crocheted doily rug pattern, and granny squares too, I am so delighted to tell!
I just love the scale and simplicity of this little rug, which works up quite quickly. Plus t-shirt yarn is such a pleasure to crochet with, you must give it a try! One can buy ready made t-shirt yarn on large spools, now available world-wide, or make your own t-shirt yarn, which doesn't quite produce results like the store bought stuff, but upcycling feels great!

Rnd 5: Proceed as in rnd 4, though corners consist of 3dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1.
To Join The Squares: The squares were joined by single crocheting them together using the back loops only, this produces a nice flat join, and looks great in a contrasting color.
Finishing the rug: Slip stitch one row around your group of six granny squares, single crochet around for a second row, this time crocheting 3sc in each corner. For frilly edge crochet a final row using picot stitch, which is sc,ch3, skip one, sc.
Enjoy!
