The dove in a nest of apples centerpiece on our table in the Sukkah was something I whipped up on a whim, and in just a few minutes, since I fortunately had all the pieces on hand. And it turns out that doves are actually a symbol of Sukkot, as are apples, so it's not only cute but has underlying meaning, always a good thing for a centerpiece that's gracing your table for a holiday, don't you think?
So, if you happen to see some brown wooden (or something) doves at your local discount store, scoop them up and paint them white, like I did, and you'll be able to use them for many different occasions, sitting right on the table or as a part of a centerpiece. And do make yourself a bunch of fabric covered apples in all your favorite colors, because they're great to have on hand anytime as well!
Oh, and if you happen to see a footed tray with a rim, like this one, snatch it up too, it comes in handy year round, as a cake stand or as a base for centerpieces of all kinds, including gold fish bowls!
