The crocheted beard that I whipped up for my eight year old's Mordechai HaTzaddik costume was a huge success! Not only did it complete his costume, it was comfortable to wear, and even kept him warm as the Purim party/barbeque we attended went into the night and temperatures dropped!
The wonderful pattern for the crocheted beard, which I'll certainly refer to again, is for attaching the beard to a hat, but I made loops with thick elastic thread to go around my son's ears. As you can see, the beard didn't exactly lie flat over his ears, so this could be improved upon by possibly attaching a stiff piece of felt on the underside of the beard, and then attach the elastic chord to the felt such that it fits exactly around the ear.
Once again, the pattern is courtesy of I'm Topsy Turvey, and there are multiple sizes, even an adorable one for baby. The pattern is straightforward and quite quick to make, so go for it!
