What does any obsessed crafter do in the middle of her intense top to bottom house cleaning in preparation for the holiday of Passover? Why of course, she gathers up all those old shirts that she wouldn't want her kids to be caught wearing out of the house, and she uses them to make t-shirt yarn. A great reason to take a break from all that cleaning and much needed organizing, right? And who knows, once you start using the yarn you've made you may need to clean out some more closets and drawers to find some more t-shirts for the cause, and that would be considered cleaning, right?
It is true, that you don't get a whole lot of yarn our of one t-shirt that used to belong to a eight year old, or even a ten year old, but these shirts are the perfect chance to make something small, and experiment with the whole idea of using t-shirt yarn for your crocheting and/or knitting! And besides, don't these little balls look just fantastic served up on a colorful Moroccan plate?
To make t-shirt yarn, follow the wonderful tutorial here, and maybe consider saving the remnants for some t-shirt yarn weaving, which you can learn about here, and actually put to use to make a fun t-shirt yarn placemat here. Enjoy, be back soon with the project I've already got underway with the balls you see here. And I'll let you in on a little secret: my husband thinks I've totally lost it to be sitting and crocheting with yarn made from t-shirts when there is so much to do, and he may be right, but hey a creative mom has got to get in her creative time, or she truly will loose it, know the feeling?
