Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday! With the holiday of Shavuot coming up on Tuesday night there are lots of preparations to be made, fortunately between me handling the greenery and crafting and my daughter handling the cheesecakes, I think we'll fit everything in. Hmmm, we could use someone to handle the laundry and ironing.......then again maybe we'll just have to honor Mt. Sinai with our own small mountain of laundry? Such is life! Newsprint Paper Flowers With Crepe Paper Center Tutorial

Festive, budget friendly and simple to make are how I'd describe these newsprint paper flowers that I whipped up the other day as last minute centerpieces. And since newsprint is used rather than tissue paper or crepe paper, the bottom layers of the flower retain their petal shapes and make a nice sturdy base, enabling one to simply attach the flower to a plate or pedestal of any kind.

Tons of flower crafting going on around here with the holiday of Shavuot coming up next week, so when I was asked to make some last minute flower centerpieces for a community get together, I just rolled up my sleeves a bit further, and got to work, and came up with these fun newsprint and crepe paper flowers, which I barely had time to photograph! And if you mix some real printed (though only black and white) newspages in there with plain ones, the effect could be fantastic.

Egg Carton Flowers, An Amazing Craft For All Ages

This week at craftng a future, I introduced my lively group of 7 to 11 year old girls to the wonders of making gorgeous flowers using egg cartons. I spent most of the time cutting up flats of egg cartons to give the girls a head start, so I didn't get to make any myself, but I sure would love to!

Since egg cartons were a plenty (on behalf of a neighbor who had been saving them!) we also used them as drying racks, and I must say, the egg carton flowers in progress also look like gorgeous works of art, don't they?

 This one in particular just makes me so very happy, love those colors!

Most of the girls worked methodically creating many singular flowers to join together after they've dried, while one student who always goes against the grain made this very artful flower consisting of at least eight layers. This craft was such a success, I invited the girls back for another crafting session the next day so that they could make more flowers....and of course they suggested that we craft together two days a week all the time! (I took pictures of the creative mess, which I'll share with you shortly.)

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure how we're going to use these flowers, and I have exactly five days to figure it out before the girls will be back for more crafting adventures! In the meantime, do give egg carton flowers a try, there are so many possibilities!

 

Recycled Soda Bottle Flowers For Shavuot!

This week at Crafting A Future, my !st and 2nd grade girls made these gorgeous recycled soda bottle flowers that sure do look like blown glass, don't they? We'll be using these flowers for a shavuot wall hanging that the girls have been working on, but I think they'd look great as is strung together with fishline or glued to a backing of some kind.

Wondering how we got such vivid colors for our recycled soda bottle flowers? Why tissue paper of course!And the other secret is to work on the inside of the flower, such that when you turn the work over the shiny plastic enhances the colors.

They really are so much fun, and so simple to make that you can whip up a bunch. Keep reading for the how-to.......

Rema designs (The Netherlands) crocheted this fun pigeon, and serving pink lemonade (USA) made these wonderful silhouettes for her daughter's nursery.

Washi Tapes Flags To Have On Hand For Summer Entertaining!

I just love how these little washi tape flags turned out, and have been enjoying looking at them for a few weeks....I think I'll use them for the upcoming holiday of Shavuot, to decorate a cheesecake or even a fresh fruit platter. And, not only are these washi tape flags something one can whip up at the last moment, why not make them ahead to have on hand, an even better idea!

Washi tape and other similar look-alikes is widely available, ( I got some at Target) so there's really something for everybody, though of course don't forget to pick up some really thin washi tape so that you can make little stripes and tiny flags like I did!

You'll Need:

• skewers or toothpicks
• washi tape in several thicknesses and patterns you love
• scissors

How To:

Cut lengths of washi tape, and place your toothpick or skewer in the center. Fold one side carefully onto the other and burnish with your finger. Cut off any excess. Make triangular cut-outs if desired, and add details with another color or pattern of washi tape. Enjoy!

Into The Woods......To Witness The Natural Delights Of Late Spring!

Last week I took a walk with my 8 and 10 year old boys to the nearby forrest, and of course I grabbed my camera in order to document some of the wonderful sights here in Northern Israel in late May. 

Crocheted Jar Toppers Transform Recycled Jars Into Adorable Containers!

Whip up a few crocheted jar toppers and transform recycled glass jars into fun storage containers! I've been using these to store my small collection of washi tape, but truthfully have loved just looking at them! I use others for keeping small change or other little items that find their way into the kitchen.
