Yom Kippur is almost here and by some small miracle I was able to grab my 9 year old son this morning to create a cut paper rooster picture for Yom Kippur. Roosters are a great thing to illustrate anytime, and they happen to be a Jewish symbol for atonement, which is what Yom Kippur is all about.
Admittedly it was a joint effort as he had to run out the door leaving mom to finish the masterpiece, which now hangs on our front door as we prepare to usher in the holiday! It's true I have yet to begin any crafting for Succot, but at least I got a cute Yom Kippur craft to share with you, right?
You'll Need:
- colored card stock
- a glue stick or glue
- scissors
- a hole punch
- ribbon
How To: Show kids how truly simple it can be to create pictures using simple shapes. Get them started if necessary by making something yourself (I actually made the rooster on the right) and then encourage them to fill up the page such that the scene is on a stage of sorts or within a frame. That is it, enjoy!
PS: Wondering about my gorgeous plant? Some of you may recognize it, it's an agave, but there's a little secret involved.....stay tuned!
PPS: To those of you observing the holiday, wishing you a tzom kal and a gemar chatima tovah!
