When your daughter is turning 13 and is even willing to make the cake if you invest some time in the decorations, so fill a wall with butterflies as I did with these butterfly birthday garlands that were a huge hit!
Of course, now that I've given you some inspiration, you'll certainly have more of a head start than I did, but do leave a good chunk of time for this, at least 2 plus hours. And the good news is that after all your efforts, these decorations are the kind of thing that you can save and use again, maybe not for another child in your family, but certainly for a neighbor or close relative or some kind of party at a child's school!
Or, even better, the decorations could be re-hung in the birthday child's room, and would look good for at least 6 or more months assuming they are not exposed to direct sun light. I like that, birthday decor that becomes bedroom decor!
You'll Need:
- letter size colored card stock
- 2 large sheets of colored card stock, yellow and blue
- 1 large sheet of colored corrugated crafting cardboard, yellow
- colored string
- a hot glue gun
- a paper party plate that you'll use for the party
General How To:
The large butterflies are made from 3 layers, the top layer is corrugated cardboard which matches the butterfly mobile I also made for the party. The string was sandwiched between the first two layers and all layers were adhered one to another at the spine of the butterfly with hot glue.
The small butterflies were cut using a template, and the hanging string is also sandwiched between the two layers, and hot glue was applied at the spine of the butterfly. Be sure to space butterflies roughly the same distance apart vertically and if desired glue a small weight at the bottom of the vertical row, I used a glass mosaic bead.
To hang you can either hang each string from its own nail, or tie one string between two nails, and then hang each vertical string from that horizontal string. If you happen to have a blank wall like this in your home, certainly having the ability to hang decorations there all the time is greatly beneficial, so putting two screws or nails into the wall will certainly always be useful!
