i'm so excited to share with you a super cute and super simple way to make a quick centerpiece, a fun place marker or a sweet mobile: origami fruit! Yes indeed, the same origami balloon shape that can be used to make origami string light covers can also be used to make adorable origami fruit in any color you like. These were made with a square made from letter sized paper, but much larger ones would work too, and if you make just four really large ones you can have a fantastic centerpiece in very little time. I'm planning on hanging these over our dining room table to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Tu B'Shevat which is all about fruit, and I think these will be perfect!
Of course these would also be great as place holders as you can simply write the guest's name on the leaf, and then of course it would become a little take home favor as well. And if you want to plan ahead and make a bunch of these in advance, just do all the folding, but don't blow them up until just before the event, wherein you can add the stem and leaf.
You'll Need:
- colored paper
- twigs
- a hot glue gun
- origami balloon tutorial
How To:
- Make squares from your paper, and fold according to origami balloon tutorial.
- Cut twigs that will be the height of the origami cube plus enough for the stem. Place a dot of high tack glue or hot glue on the end of the twig and insert it into the hole at the top of the balloon, and make sure twig reaches bottom of cube. Add a tiny bit of glue around the neck of the hole to hold twig in place if necessary.
- Cut a small leaf and affix the leaf to the base of the stem.
- That is it, so simple and so cute!
