Crocheted Chunky Doily Throw Using My Doily Rug Pattern!

Araelia from Sydney, Australia sent me these photos of the crocheted doily throw she made using my giant crocheted doily rug pattern! Isn't it great? Truthfully, I made a baby blanket from this pattern as well, just never got around to photographing it, and the "rug" that I originally made actually works best as a giant doily on my dining room table. So even if you don't have any need for a crocheted rug, this pattern can be used to make giant doilies to use in so many ways!

DIY Super Simple Cupcake Stand

When you find plastic bowls and plates in retro modern colors at IKEA that are totally cheap and can be used to make the most adorable little cupcake stands, well who can resist? Certainly not me! And the only reason that these bowls and plates remained way up high in my kitchen cabinet for a few months was that I just didn't have the right little dessert that would work with them. (My daughter made these mini cupcakes in her new multi use cupcake cakepop waffle iron that is working really well.) Of course these DIY cupcake stands would look great as catchalls on a desk or sideboard too, if you can get away with it! I just love the colors and they remind me of one of those color mixing educational tools I might have played with in kindergarten, though I can't quite put my finger on it.

These cupcake stands can be assembled for a party, or even given to kids to use in their play kitchens, right? For a party I'd set them on an all white table with silver accents and maybe a bunch of DIY glitter or tissue paper decorations. Whatever you do, let the colors of the cupcake stands pop against a neutral background without too much other competition and the look will be amazing.

Getting A Moth Orchid To Re-Bloom

So the story goes like this: after making a huge purchase at a nursery in September 2014, my husband told the guy ringing up our order to throw in the lovely Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis ) I had picked out for myself as a present. And since this is Israel where purchases in many family owned businesses can (and should) be bargained for, well, I got that orchid as a gift! And I happily placed it in the center of my Moroccan brass tray coffee table, and to my great surprise it just kept on blooming and blooming for yes, an ENTIRE YEAR! This was my first orchid and I really truly could not believe my great luck, and figured that just as soon as the shemittah year was over and we were allowed to buy plants again, I would head back to that same nursery and get myself another orchid. Of course, I did plan to try and get the orchid to re-bloom, but I didn't have great hopes as I don't have access to any orchid fertilizer, and my experience with getting an orchid to rebloom is a big zero, since this is my first orchid!
