This adorable five minute cake topper really will only take you five minutes, especially if you have all the simple supplies on hand, and you most likely do! Okay, it is true, you may wish to invest more time in a cake for a loved one's birthday, understandable, but on the other hand, sometimes you need some quick tricks, and sometimes simple is truly the best! Invest time in decorations that won't be eaten if you have the time, and keep the cake fairly simple, that is my advice!
I've even had people arrive at my house as guests and then declare that it is their birthday, in which case something like this is perfect......actually to have something like this already made is perfect, so why not whip up a few and put them aside, you won't regret it. And the good news is that this little cake topper can also be used on a fruit platter, or stuck into just about anything in case there isn't a cake on hand. (Stay tuned until tomorrow to see what kind of cake I used this on! ) So what do you say? Lets make one of these together, okay?
You'll Need:
- 2 bamboo (wooden) skewers
- washi tape or contact paper (mine is tape, but not technically "washi") in 2 colors of patterns
- floral wire, mine was a piece recycled from a gerbera flower
- a fun character or group of characters of some kind, plastic animals would work too
How To:
Cut skewers to desired length. Figure out how far apart they need to be, and wrap wire around them as seen in photo accordingly, leaving some slack in the wire so it swags. Wrap tape pieces around the wire such that each flag is 2 layers of tape, and then cut a triangle out of the bottom. Cut circles to make toppers for the sticks, use two circles for each topper, so that circle is two sided.
That is it, now that you have the cake figured out and it only took you five minutes, you can take a little nap! Froggie certainly needs one apparently as modeling is hark work. And come to think of it, one could make some tiny versions of these for cupcakes, would also be just the cutest! Enjoy!
