Saying thank you and really meaning it is one of those little things that really makes a huge difference, not just for the receiver, but for the giver as well. In today's world where modernization has brought with it a feeling of entitlement, we have to work extra hard to teach our children (and ourselves) how to be considerate, caring and grateful!
In the Jewish tradition we give thanks the minute we open our eyes each morning, but that doesn't mean we know how to express thanks to those in their lives! "One can never say thank you enough", is my motto, and while this comes easily to some, I have noticed that for others it can for some mysterious reason actually be difficult! I do think that saying thank you can become a natural thing if one does it enough, so do encourage your children to write thank you notes, make signs, and of course phone calls as well to those who deserve a nice thank you for acts both large and small.
Now. let me take this opportunity to say a big thank you to my mother, "Bubby" for flying us across the world and making our yearly family get together possible! We are truly grateful, and hope we will have the opportunity to do it for many years to come.
My kids made these signs the morning we were saying goodbye to my mother, and I know she certainly enjoyed looking at them when she arrived home. A thank you from the heart doesn't have to be fancy, just white paper and markers conveys the message just as well, and maybe even better, than fancy paper and laser cut letters! Just do be prepared with the necessary items on hand next time you want to make some thank you signs!
And while we are talking about thanks, thanks for joining me here!
