Welcome to craft schooling sunday, the Lag B'Omer Edition! Whoops forgot to post the link up until now, Sunday evening as I was a bit distracted with all the holiday preparations, apparently, sorry about that!
Lag B'Omer is the 33rd day of the 49 day period referred to as the Omer, and this is actually a mourning period on the jewish calander, BUT, because the 33rd (the number 33 is lamed gimmel in hebrew which spell Lag) day is the anniversery of the death of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, it is a huge day for spiritual partying, and especially in my neck of the woods which is where the burial site of Rabbi Shimon is located. It is true, in the USA people have a barbeque or something, but here well, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world come to visit the gravesite, a huge logistical event, as well as something you just miht not believe. Roads are closed to cars in our whole area, and one can arrive to the gravesite area by bus only. And believe me, those buses start pouring in. Bonfires, and singing and dancing are everywhere, as are those deeply engrossed in prayer.......because you see, the greatest days on the Jewish calandar are also the most fortuitous times to pray! So, if you haven't heard about Lag B'Omer before, look it up, and send up a prayer or two, it certainly can't hurt, right?
