eWhile I can't take credit for making these adorable little book sandwich cookies, I did take the photo, and I am going to share with you how I think they were made, so that counts for something, right? And of course, just for the record, these "book" sandwich cookies are actually meant to represent a prayer book, a siddur, as this was a dessert bar celebrating the "siddur party" the very special event which takes place in Jewish schools generally at the end of first grade, when the kids have learned to read and are ready to receive their first prayer book.
So whether your specnial occasion is a graduatiom day book signing, a book club party, a book themed birthday party, a siddur party, or even a library fundraiser, these book sandwich cookies are sure to please, and I've got some tips for making them.
And I just realized one could use these for Rosh HaShana as well, since we say "may you be inscribed in the book of life", how is that for a fun Jewish New Year's treat?
The chocolate piping here says "siddur", but was apparently too much work as this was one of a kind amongst many. So skip the chocolate piped words unless you are an expert, and take the simplest route possible, especially since they'll get eaten anyway!
You'll Need:
- bisquit cookies
- wafffle cookies
- melted dark chocolate
- little decorations, optional
How To: This idea was made using specific kosher cookies available in Israel and generally worldwide in kosher grocery stores, however, I'm sure you can figure out how to do this with cookies that are in your store, just be a bit creative.
The main idea is to make a sandwich using the bisquits on the outside and the waffle cookie (which is striped from the side and looks like pages) on the inside. You may need to use two waffle cookies inside each sandwich, or carefully cut the waffle cookies to the right size.
I love the idea of the triangular chocolate corners, so do that first by dipping corners in chocolate. Set aside to harden. Stick everything together with melted chocolate or icing, and then dip the spine in the melted chocolate. That is it, enjoy!
