DIY: Rope Wrapped Apples Look Great Year Round

If you are looking for a quick craft to add some cozy rustic charm to your home, this dear readers might just do the trick. These DIY rope covered apples are so simple to make that you can surely whip up a whole bowl full in an hour or so. Of course if you start calling all your friends to tell them about this great craft you found, well that may just increase your crafting time, so I'd say craft and then tell! Or in this case, Pin, if you would be so kind?

Rope, in this case the thinnest one I could find at my local hardware store, is great for making things that have that rustic feeling I'm craving this fall, and really can be used for so many things. I have made a crocheted rope heart, as well as a knit rope pot holder with this same cotton two ply chord/rope, and it really is exactly the right thickness for wrapping small to medium sized items.

Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! We are now in the Jewish month of Cheshvan, which is considered to be a somewhat sad month as it is the only month of the year in which there are no Jewish holidays or fast days! So now is perfect time to bring some light into the month of Cheshvan by getting creative!

And of course, since spending too much time poking around on the internet never really leads to actually creating, there is more than enough inspiration right here on CJM and on Craft Schooling Sunday to get you started! And now for the features from last week's party, enjoy:

Fabulous Wire Frame Tree Sculptures As Summer Street Art In Montreal

One of the things that Canada does really well, and Montreal in particular is celebrating the outdoors during the summer, as winter is harsh and very long! This summer in Montreal we came across many many examples of street celebrations and I especially loved these vibrant metal trees defined with strips of fabricm delineating an area in downtown Montreal used for lunch time concerts....a lovely program and wonderful sculptures that were made without investing a huge sum......I am assuming they are saved from year to year, at least hoping that is the case!

And this dear readers can certainly be a source of inspiration for your own creative fall crafting, right?

The DIY Five Minute Paper Plate Clock

Who wouldn't want to make this fun DIY paper plate clock, especially since it takes just five minutes? True you'll need to have the clock mechanism and a favorite paper plate on hand, but the rest is quite simply one of my very favorite projects. Add a touch of Fall color to your home, or a little something unexpected for a very small investment, and you can always change the plate when your heart desires! And now you have a great excuse to buy some cute paper plates, or a way to use up a few plates that are hanging around with no purpose in site, ready?

Printing With Leaves Is A Perfect Fall Craft

Once upon a time, I posted about printing with leaves as a perfect Spring craft, and I still stand behind that, only now after coming across this photo of some leaf and pod printing I did for a Jewish journal, I'd like to add that printing with leaves is a perfect Fall craft, especially when one omits the bright green and uses deep purples and blues! And if you're really adventurous, after trying your hand at printing on paper, get some fabric paint and make a gorgeous rustic table cloth or even a runner. So, depending on where you ilve, and whether there are leaves year round, now might be just the time to give this craft a try. Make prints to use as holiday cards, make tiny prints to use as place cards for your next formal get together, and if you make a particularly great one, take a photo of it, as I did in this case and use it many times over!

There are several ways to make leaf prints, and as you can guess I have tried them all, with the exception of actually hammering the leaf onto the fabric.......Ready to give this a try?

DIY Giant Paper Flowers Make The Perfect Fall Centerpiece

Looking for a great idea for a DIY centerpiece or a quick way to make a statement in your home this Fall? Look no further! No pumpkins (though admittedly the little white ones would look lovely here), no fall leaves, no burlap, no apples, instead how about some giant paper poppies in neutral Fall colors? These oversized flowers made from large sheets of ultra heavy paper come together quickly, and whether you choose to make just one or a whole bunch, I know you won't regret it.......in fact you may even find yourself dancing with joy. Really!

Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, I hope everyone is safe and well! The changing seasons always brings the need for work around the house that at this point takes precedence over crafting, and since there is certainly no idea where I live about decorating for fall, and no orange pumpkins in sight, there is no lack on that front. The fact that my container garden needs some help, including some new pots to replace some that are broken, is something that is noticeable, so hoping to take care of that this coming week, as well as traveling to Jerusalem for not one but two weddings.

Of course the changing season always brings with it the need to crochet, so maybe I'll have to tuck some yarn in my bag to make something during those six plus hours on the bus to and from Jerusalem!

Whitewater Surfing In Montreal?

Yes, really, there is surfing in Montreal, and I'll admit I was just as surprised as you are, especially since I happened upon it accidently while trying to get a better look at the Habitat 1967 apartment complex from the back side! Of course I also did take note of a bunch of people carrying surf boards, and figured they were just riding them down the rapids, not actually surfing! Brutalist Architecture In Montreal: Habitat 1967 Apartment Complex

You may not know this, but among my many interests, one of them happens to be architecture, so of course on our recent trip to Montreal I just had to have a look at Moshe Safdie's 1967 World's Fair Brutalist masterpiece entitled Habitat. Personally I have a love/hate relationship with Brutalist style architecture, and in this case I'd say my reaction was 100% love. Well except for the fact that the guard of the complex really doesn't allow you to wonder around to get a better look. Fair enough of course, people live here and I can imagine that they quite simply don't need any more curious folks poking around. As far as poking around, that is actually one of the things I'm pretty good at, and this time it actually led to a really interesting discovery, so keep on reading!

A Walk Down Outremont Avenue, Montreal

Knowing very little about Montreal when I set out to rent a place in a Jewish neighborhood where we could meet up with my mother sure was taking a big chance, but I'm happy to report we hit the jackpot, as the Outremont neighborhood that is both trendy and home to a thriving Jewish community is truly lovely on so many levels. It all happened very much by chance, and while I never was much good at winning raffles, I do seem to be on a winning streak with the vacation rentals, much to my relief!

Outremont is both a neighborhood and an Avenue, and we actually rented a place on Outremont Avenue just below Bernard, a few blocks from everything we could possibly need, not to mention a few blocks from gorgeous parks, and or course just walking down the Avenue is in itself a treat, care to join me?
