Isn't my pineapple top plant looking just great? It truly is exciting to see something that you make from kitchen scraps grow into a really nice looking plant.......a plant that would never have graced this planet if we'd tossed those precious pineapple tops! And the fun part is, they really do grow, and sometimes quite quickly, or with dramatic growth spurts. So bring some of that trendy pineapple themed home decor into your home with a home grown pineapple plant. It is so simple you'll have a grove in no time......well if you have the space that is! Oh, and of course don't forget to buy the pineapples with tops that are in perfect or near perfect condition so that your plant will look its very best. Take a look at this photo to see the pineapple before his top became a plant.
My pineapple really has outgrown this pot, but is happy nonetheless in the mean time, as it really is quite tolerant. I'm not expecting to grow any fruit, rather just to enjoy the foliage, which is sort of cactus/palm/succulent like and maybe just maybe the plant will product a flower at some point, but not likely unless it gets a lot of light.
You'll Need:
- a pineapple top, cut it off the pineapple with about 1/2" of fruit
- dirt
- a pot
How To: I could make this more complicated, but I won't because it doesn't need to be! Just simply cut off the pineapple top with 1/2" fruit and place in moist dirt. Keep moist and roots will develop in a few weeks. That is it, sit back and enjoy, just don't forget to water your new friend now and again!
