Aren't these flowers just gorgeous? Now is the time to take a trip to your local nursery, buy some inexpensive pots of flowering plants, and make a gorgeous DIY floral centerpiece. You can assemble a stunning floral arrangemet in minutes that is so budget friendly you'll only buy cut flowers during the winter! Okay, maybe you'd rather spend a small fortune on truly gorgeous bouquets, but around here flowers rarely last more than a week, as opposed to flowering plants that we can enjoy for months. Ah yes, and I just love the natural look of using flowering plants that come with their own greenery!
I actually purchased all these little plants to make centerpieces for my son's bar mitzvah, and after we enjoy them for the holiday of Shavuos, coming up Saturday night, most of them will be planted in my container garden or in a garden that I designed just down the street. Plants raised to be planted in the garden can certainly be enjoyed indoors for a week or two, though likely need the kind of sunlight or light levels generally only found outdoors to keep flowering.

Now, let me tell you, I choose all these flowers in about twenty minutes or less, as I had taken a plant buying trip with some interior design clients and didn't want to keep them waiting. I went for the most vivid flowers in rich colors, avoiding pink (this was for a bar mitzvah) and going for pots that had the most color. After all the flowers were grouped together as seen here, I was truly delighted by how beautiful they all looked together.
You'll Need:
- Pots of flowering plants, six, eight, ten, etc
- A tray, crate or low box to hold the pots
- fabric or ribbon to wrap around pots if using tray or container that does not have sides high enough to conceal plastic pots
How To:
Arrange the plants with tallest blooms in the center if for a table, and if for a side table, place tallest plants in the back. The beauty is really just in the combination of heights and color and making sure all the plants are nice and full so that they fill the space entirely. Make sure plastic nursery pots are not visible: cover with wide ribbon or strips of fabric wrapped around pot. You could place pots into ceramic pots, but that takes up more space and may result in less dense arrangement of the flowers.
Really so very very simple, right?
A natural looking arrangement is so simple, just use my photos for reference. Plants like these are likely only available in the spring and summer for most of us, so now is the time to visit your local nursery and treat yourself!
Now go and make your own gorgeous centerpiece and get ready for all the compliments!
