Needlepoint Dreidels For Hanukkah With Plastic Canvas

Plastic Canvas Dreidel Ornaments for Hanukkah

This Chanukah is turning out to be a plastic canvas craft extravaganza! Yes just a bit odd for someone who prefers to craft with recyclables, but hey, sometimes I just want to make some great looking crafts from store bought suppiles, can you blame me? I will say that all the supplies for these plastic canvas Chanukah crafts are things that I already have on hand, and I have been using up little bits and pieces of yarn, and even unraveling swatches to get enough of the colors I desire!

These plastic canvas dreidels were actually the first thing I made, just somehow decided to share them with you last, which is a good thing as they look great together with my plastic canvas snowflake medallions, right? These embroidered dreidels are simple enough to make even for kids say around seven or eight, so get the whole family stitching and you’ll have enough for a garland or fun wall hanging in no time. Shall we get started?

Plastic Canvas Embroidered Dreidels

You’ll Need:

  • plastic canvas, mine is seven holes to the inch
  • yarn
  • a yarn needle

How To:

Cut dreidel shapes from your plastic canvas, and then fill in the shape with yarn. Design as you go, or plan ahead, you decide. But do use variegated yarn (all the pink yarn here is from the same variegated skein) and muliti-colored yarn for that special touch. After you have filled in the entire dreidel shape with long stitches, so that it won’t take too long, go around the edge.

And that my friends is it. I haven’t yet figured out how I’ll be hanging mine, but you don’t need me to figure that out, right? I was actually thinking of even just sewing them onto a piece of white fabric and making a wall hanging that would look like the top photo, but not sure just yet! Enjoy

Even though you made up the patterns, it would be nice to know the dimensions to cut the canvas. At least one to start with.

Very sweet! I am going to make a couple.
As for the dimensions, the stick part looks like it is 2/3 the length of the dreidel square. The triangle is almost the same length.
Thank you Jewish Mama for posting them.
