Hi Friends, I am back from a five weeks of family time and adventures both in Europe and The United States, and am looking forward to sharing it all with you! I was hoping to have time to get Craft Schooling Sunday going this week, but since it is also Labor Day weekend in the USA, I figured I'd might as well continue the vacation one more week, so hoping to see everyone again on September 8th.

Welcome to The Best of Craft Schooling Sunday, All Things Fabric! Craft Schooling Sunday is taking a summer break as I spend time with  family on an extended summer vacation, so I've prepared this best of post to keep the inspiration going. Summer is a great time to get those crafty gears turning, though admittedly actually finding time for creativity can be a challenge while in the middle of a family adventure, as is the case this year. Hmmm, spend time painting or go out and experience a new city? Not a question, new experiences always take the lead, and yes of course one can take a sketchbook and sit in the park for even half an hour and sketch, but that is not for those with teens in tow. Of course the teens would be perfectly happy staying put much of the time in the first place, and when we leave our city location later this week and move to the ocean maybe just maybe I'll have time for a bit of painting. So dear readers, enjoy this roundup of projects from previous parties this year and looking forward to reconnecting the first Sunday in September.

Dear readers, I am currently taking a summer break so I’ve prepared some inspiring ”best of” posts to replace Craft Schooling Sunday for the next three weeks. I’m even typing this on a cell phone, a first for me and not conducive to my usual babble so i’ll wish everyone a creative rest of the summer and loooking forward to  reconnecting in September. Jerusalem Doodles For The Nine Days

I am currently mostly unplugged but have dusted this one off and taken it out of the archives as a great summer crafting activity for the Nine Days. T'isha B'Av, the saddest day on the Jewish calendar coming up next Sunday and the 8 days preceding the holiday are days of mourning in which we do not eat meat or drink wine (except on shabbat), cut our hair, have weddings or parties of any kind, or listen to music just to name some of the laws of the period. It is a challenge to remember the seriousness of this period during summer vacation, and the greatest reminder is to quite simply to get busy thinking about Jerusalem, and I'm here to help you with that!

There is something about doodling that is just perfect for summer, and anyone can do it, so I thought that coming up with doodle patterns that depict Jerusalem would be perfect right about now. I've chosen to use Jerusalem domed houses and buildings, cypress trees and the stones of the Kotel as my doodling elements, though I'm sure you can some up with some more. So doodle a bunch of pages, and then color them, and use them for crafting. What crafting you may ask? I'm going to leave that up to you!

Remembering Jerusalem Crafts For The Nine Days

The period of mourning for Jerusalem that is referred to as "The Nine Days" on the Jewish calendar is here, so lets add some meaning to this important time with some creative crafts! For those of us who live in Israel, and for whom the idea of Jerusalem is real, the crafts are a great reminder that while it is summer vacation (my boys are actually still in school until the end of this week ) and a time to unwind from the pressures of the school year, we mustn't forget that it still a time for reflection. For those living outside of Israel, I'd say filling the house with crafts for the nine days is crucial to stress its importance.......so let's get crafting. Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! I am really hoping to get some time for some painting once again this summer, be it in sketchbook or on paper, I'll take either. Of course I'll share with you my progress, and really really hoping there will be something to share! As for you my dear reader, summer is a great time to dabble in the craft of your dreams, so go for it, and then you'll have that much more to share here on Craft Schooling Sunday!
