At long last I have finally found the time to share with you one of the favorite crafts I made for our family Chanukah birthday party: stand-up cardboard huskies, courtesy of Mr. Printables! And at the birthday party when the huskies made their debut, they were actually pulling the birthday cake! Yes, that birthday cake with the sparkly red flags that I shared a while back. (Note to self and everyone else: try to have everything ready the day before, even the cake, so you'll have time to photograph it all nicely!) Now it is too late to photograph the huskies pulling the cake and I do have a photo that is nice enough for the family photo album, but not quite nice enough for this blog. So maybe I'll just have to do it again next year? The good news is that these adorable recycled cardboard box huskies come apart and can be stored flat, so saving them is certainly a must, and they truly are adorable, so we may just have to use them through out the year as well! Okay, lets take a closer look and learn how to make them!
You'll Need:
- recycled cardboard
- white paint
- a black permanent marker
- red yarn
- template courtesy of Mr. Printables, right here
- tracing paper or baking paper to trace template right off the screen if necessary
How To:
- Print template or trace template right of the screen, using a felt pen, and by taping the paper to the screen with masking tape, totally great!
- Transfer the template to your cardboard with carbon paper, or use double stick tape to adhere tracing to cereal box cardboard, cut that out and use it as a template to trace around to make mulitiples. Instead of carbon paper one can go over the lines on the backside of the paper with a pencil. and the graphite also will transfer to the cardboard when you draw over the lines on the right side of the paper. We've all done that right?
- Cut out the pieces with sharp scissors and paint and add black details once paint is dry!
- Repeat multiple times and enjoy!
- And if you have time, try to make some of those adorable peg dolls, those are on my to-do list, just can't seem to get there!
Of course whlle I only made four huskies, you could make enough to go down the entire center of the table, or for multiple tables!Ah yes, and simple white pom poms (or white cotton balls) give that extra fun touch of snow, hung as garlands and scattered around the table.
