Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday!

Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! My lastest realization is that the only way to get through these crazy times is with creativity, lots of it! I have been delving a bit more into painting and trying to keep up my sketchbook practice in the middle of an otherwise busy schedule. And I can certainly say that without those creative activities I would be downright miserable. With Chanukah still in the distance I am crafting for the holiday, but in a relaxed way, and hoping that one day soon I'll get out some yarn and get around to crocheting something, maybe a crocheted cloud or two or a new scarf, or a whale for an upcoming birthday present. Then again, there are many other things calling my name, so no promises.....last January I spent time crocheting all my gift pouches for Chanukah, so I have a box filled to the brim and ready to go, very unlike me, but so refreshing! So my second conclusion about how to get through these crazy times is by planning ahead and relieving stress that comes with last minute plans......don't I know! Okay, I must run, so enjoy the features from last week's party and looking forward to seeing what you've been up to. And if you decide to knit, or sew, or crochet, well, the features will not disappoint!

It is true creative jewish mom is a blog about creativity and life in Israel, but some of the other aspects of life can often take us away from the creative endeavors or meaningful relationships we ought to pursue. I am all about sharing tips to reduce stress, especially at a time like this, and combine that with encouraging parents to nurture their children, I'm here to spread that message as well. Carrying debt is certainly on of those "aspects" that can weigh a person down, so lets take a look at a few options one can pursue in order to spend more time adding joy to your life! One of the worst aspects of carrying debt is that it can limit your options as an individual and as a family. Even some "good" debt, such as a mortgage or student loans, can make you feel like it is too risky to give up a second income for example, and take the leap into becoming a stay at home parent. However, if you sit down and look at the numbers as well as taking some steps to change your financial situation, one parent just might be able to stay home with the kids full-time. And that would be amazing, even if for just a few years! While I don't know if there are any conclusive studies, children raised with a stay at home parent who is raising them with love and attention and intent are more stable and more able to have their own healthy relationships. How we nurture our children affects their lives immensely and the lives of their children as well. So when you think about the sacrifices you may have to make in order to become a stay at home parent, think of all the generations to come that will benefit!

My husband's birthday is coming up, on the first night of Chanukah, and fortunately for my kids I take care of all the planning as special birthday parties are something I love to do for my family. I don't think they quite realize how fortunate they are to have me at the helm devoting many hours to festive decorations, thoughtful gifts and in this case, an evening dedicated not just to Chanukah but also to two family birthdays! As with many aspects of life, when my kids have their own homes, and have to plan birthdays for their families, then they'll realize that honoring a loved one on a special day takes time and effort, and planning ahead.

Three Ways To Propogate A ZZ Plant

If you are at all familiar with houseplant trends then you may know that one of the most popular houseplants is the plant affectionately referred to as ZZ. Because its name Zamioculcas zamiifolia is neither pronouncable nor memorable, and the plant is really too new on the houseplant scene to have earned itself a name like peace lily, wandering jew, mother in law's tongue, lucky bamboo, etc. so ZZ it is, and truthfully, ZZ is just fine for this wonderful and easy to care for plant, so lets just leave it at that!

So I am writing this article about the three ways to propogate a ZZ plant, because in repotting some of mine, surprise surprise, I also ended up doing some propogating, which means more ZZ plants in my little jungle, can't wait! While the ZZ plant is known to tolerate low light situations, my ZZ plant in a somewhat low light location started to fail, and I just couldn't believe that I, the houseplant enthusiast with a mini jungle in my living room was having trouble with one of the easiest plants to grow, or rather hardest plants to kill! After loosing most of its stalks, my ZZ plant was clearly suffering, so my last ditch effort, was to move it to a bright location, and guess what, within a few days the plant already had new sprouts, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. In my delight I decided to combine my very small ZZ plant, which has been doing fine, with this larger one, whose pot was looking quite empty, and while repotting I discovered a huge rhizome clump underneath the clump that was supporting the stalks of the plant, whaddaya know? That may have been why the plant wasn't doing well, or maybe because it wasn't doing well it cloned itself? We will never quite know, I'm just happy to have hopefully resolved the mystery of the failing ZZ plant, and now the next time I treat myself to a plant, ZZ it will be! Okay, lets get propogating!
