Sometimes you just need a great idea for party decorations in a pinch, and maybe even a ton of them, and this my friends is a keeper! Paper doll chains can be made in any length or size, the only limit is the size of your paper! I just love the idea of hanging them on a line, with clothespins, whether suspended, as mine were, or on a wall, and this preserves the paper dolls for use in the future, or maybe you'd like to take them down and let the guests clothe them? Now how is that for party decor meets party craft? Okay, our big party of the year, Purim is coming tomorrow night, so lets get this show on the road!
You'll Need:
- large newspaper spread size sheets of paper in medium or cardstock weight, in colors that you like
- a piece of cereal box cardboard to make a template
- a good pair of scissors
- glitter foam or contact paper or any paper
- mini pom poms
- craft glue or hot glue
How To:
Decide on the height of your paper dolls and make a template on a piece of cardboard, I just made half a doll and traced around that so that my dolls would be symmetrical. If using medium weight paper and making long chains, it is not possible to accordion fold the paper as it will be way to thick and unmanageable and un-cuttable. So instead, I folded my sheets of paper lengthwise into 4, such that I could cut out several chains at one time, but not in the traditional accordion fold manner. This does require tracing all the dolls on the length of the paper, and cutting them out as one piece, but it goes quickly and the results are nice and flat.
Decorate your dolls, and even glue together several strips if you like, as i did. Just not that if you decide to make clown hats with craft foam, you'll need that back layer of dolls to keep the front layer from tipping over due to the weight of the hats!
Enjoy!
