I am officially obsessed with these adorable 2 stroke painted butterflies because they are so simple to paint and the results are just so wonderful! And so my friends butterflies and pyramids are going to the the theme of this year's Passover crafts, lets do it! This butterfly technique can be used in so many ways, though of course I'd recommend practicing a bit before going to town, to get your technique down so that it will be consistent and quick! And of course, you'll want to experiment a bit to see which paint brush works the best for this, and I just realized how fabulous these butterflies would be really large, like painted with a house painting brush! (Need a spring school play backdrop, or a party backdrop, think butterflies!) Okay, time is of the essence, lets get to it!
- acrylic craft paint
- black sumi ink, black ink of any kind, black acrylic ink or black paint, use what you have!
- paint brushes: a flat for the wings, (I used a 3/8") a tiny detail brush for the head and body and details (if you add them, looks great without them too!)
- paper or an A4 sized sketchbook, or of course any surface that works for you
How To:
- First paint the butterfly wings, in two strokes. I am left handed so I started with the right wing, while right handed folks will likely start with the left wing. You can paint the wings as I've marked on the photo above, either going in the same direction, which requires a bit of a twist of the wrist for the second wing, or going in opposite directions, which works too. Basically you are going for an upside down heart shape.
- Once dry, add the black head and body with a small paintbrush
- Add the cute details to the wings, to some or all, they look great either way!
So much fun right? And this is a quick project for those needing just a little creativity in their day! (though you won't want to stop......!)
