This Chanukah I am busy making multi colored plastic bag pom poms which will hang from the light fixture over the dining room table. And with 8 nights to celebrate hanging something new for the 4th night tomorrow is totally great! This is not the first time I've made plastic bag pom poms, but these are the smallest and most compact ones I've made, as In the past I was going for something large. Now I need something festive to hang together with some golden metal dreidels, and these are perfect. I'm actually loving them so much that I'll be making some more shortly, and phew, in the end I did actually do some crafting for Chanukah! The house is full of decorations that have been made in past years and I didn't really need anything new, but just had to do something! Okay, lets make some plastic bag pom poms!
You'll Need:
- plastic bags (preferably light weight ones used in the grocery store or take-out restaurant
- good scissors
- string
- a piece of cardboard for wrapping the yarn around
- a tutorial for making plastic bag yarn, here
- a tutorial for making plastic bag pom poms here
How To:
Follow the instructions in the links provided above, though if you want to make pom poms that look like these, you'll need to cut a piece of cardboard (for wrapping the yarn) that is roughly 3" tall, in order to produce pom poms that are roughly 3.5" to 4" diameter.
Like any pom pom crafting, the final results depend on the haircut that you give your pom pom, and the shorter the haircut the more dense the pom pom! Enjoy!
Make pom poms that are speckled with color, or with more of a color blocked effect below, you decide. For a speckled look you'll change the colors in your yarn frequently.
So much fun right? And guess what, I even used them as cake toppers in a pinch, which I'll share shortly. Happy craftng!
