With Purim in less than a week, now is time to get crafting friends, and I've started with making egg carton animal portraits that are mini works of art that will also be gift tags for my mishloach manot! The four here were the first 4 of a group that is now 21 strong, so honestly they aren't quite as good as those that follow, but time is of the essence, so sharing them with you anyway. Truthfully before making more I thought these were great, and so it goes. My only problem now is that I love some of them so much that I can't possibly give them away to folks who won't appreciate them, so I'll give away these and the others that I can part with, and move on to making some toilet paper tube birds for the other folks since that will be less time consuming! Okay, lets do this!
- egg cartons
- recycled cardboard, mine is the back piece of a watercolor paper pad
- paint pens
- black fine line pen
- hot glue or high tack craft glue
How To:
- Cut your egg carton into sections so you have pieces that look like a four petaled flower. Cut off two petals and make ears of any size from the other two petals. So many animals come to mind as you'll see, so take a look at a photo of the animal of your choice to add the proper details.
- Draw details on egg carton to give the animal life!
- If your cardboard is darker than the color of your egg cartons you can add fewer details, but here the cardboard and the egg cardton are the same, so I needed to distinguish between the two.
- Cut cardboard shapes to act as a frame, and you can get fancier with ovals, polygons etc. if you like
- Place animal head on cardboard and draw (with a pencil at first) the hat and clothes.
- Go over pencil lines with fine black pen and then add color with paint pen. Color frame of cardboard as well, adding little details if you like
- Affix egg carton head with hot glue and voila, the cutest gift tag, piece of art, party decor element is born!
