Years ago I got into floral doodles via some tutorials for bullet journal art and it was so much fun, and a great introduction to the world of journaling and sketchbook practices. Since then I've been working on refining my art skills and while doing lots of drawing, not like the floral borders you see here, and wow, was this ever enjoyable and fun, with great results, and, I might add so very simple compared to trying to paint the landscapes I'm dreaming of! If this doesn't seem "simple" to you, not to worry, practice, practice and more practice and soon you can draw flower doodles in your dreams! Want some basic instructions for this? Keep on reading.....
- tutorials on how to draw bullet journal flowers, lots available online and on You Tube
- paper, mine is kraft paper
- paint pens, I use Posca brand
- a fine line black pen, I love the uniball AIR fineline
- a pencil and a round object to serve as a template
How To:
- Practice drawing line drawings of flowers so that you'll be ready to go with a good idea of how to draw them for this project! Shayda Campbell on You Tube is fantastic.
- Using a small plate or large roll of tape as a template, draw a circle around the object, in the middle of your paper.
- I did not draw in pencil first, though you theoretically could, just draw the first layer and fill in with paint pen, and then draw the second layer.
- Layer 1 is greenery, and consists of visually light weight sprigs with elongated leaves. They mostly get covered up, so don't worry about them too much.
- Layer 2 is flowers, stems and leaves in one color.
- Layer 3 is adding detail to flowers with a second color. See above photo for the results at this point.
- Layer 4 makes the whole thing look amazing when you outline the flowers and add more details, mostly little lines.
- Layer 5: Fill in small areas that look empty with paint pen dots, or even make a border with the dots, just try not to overdo it, a few dots goes a long way!!
That is it, practice and practice some more, and then use this idea to make something original!
