Mini recycled magazine page chrysanthemums are just the sweetest and great anytime or for a special occasion! I could have sworn that i made larger versions of these a good ten years ago, but the only thing I found on my blog is a felt version of these, also wonderful! I had totally forgotten about my felt flower stint, hmmmm, maybe time to revisit that, but in the mean time, lets make some magazine page flowers, in this case mini versions that I think I'm going to use as napkin decor for my daughter's birthday party this Shabbat (shhhh, its a surprise!) Magazine pages can be a great source of colorful and patterned paper, so before you recycled any lightweight paper items, check them out to see if indeed there are pages that are mostly one color, or a combination of pleasing colors that could be used for crafting! I save these pages in a shoe box or in a nice pile, as there are many many craft projects that call for recycled magazine pages, and the look that is achieved is unmatched with solid colored paper of any kind. Of course, there is nothing quite like real flowers, so why not buy some flowers online Sydney to enjoy as well. Okay, lets get started.....
- recycled magazine pages
- bamboo skewers or wire
- hot glue or high tack glue
- scissors
How To:
- These tiny flowers were made with 1/2 of a magazine page divided vertically, and they are also the perfect size for crafting with kids.
- Fold page in half lengwise, and then make fold about 1 cm deep along length, and unfold. This fold is to make a line that marks the area not to be cut.
- Cut fringe along the length of the strip, being careful not to cut beyond the line.
- Place some glue on the end of the skewer (a half a skewer is the right size for these flowers) and then start slowing rolling, adding glue here and there as you go.
- If the skewer comes out, poke it back into to bottom of flower with more glue.
- The bottom of the flower is not so attractive because of its circumference, so if you can, squeeze it and add more glue to make it look more like the bottom of a flower.
- Take 1cm strips of green magazine paper and wrap bottom of flower and skewer with the strip to resemble floral tape!
- Fluff flower if necessary by folding down layers of fringe.
- Voila, a cute flower is born!
Really so sweet, and the white print on the opposite side of the flower really gives it depth.
Okay, go make a bunch of these, to use now or put in a shoebox and save for a special occassion, always great to have DIY crafted decor on hand!
