Simple Origami Sailboat Craft For Kids

Stand up origami sailboats are fun to make and wonderful as a group project, as they look great together! Learning origami is a great summer activity for kids, and this sailboat is simple enough for 7 or 8 year olds, or even younger. Paper sailboats can be used in wall hangings, as cake toppers or as fun decor on a shelf somewhere, with the help of a tp roll stand! I've started a small crafting class for a group of 8 to 9 year old boys, and they loved this craft, and especially adding the flag at the end!

A New Orchid On The Block: Mini Yellow Phalaenopsis

There's a new orchid on the block, or rather at the moment on top of our piano, thanks to my husband's friend the gardener who often brings me rejected orchids that I have in many cases been able to bring back to life and enjoy for years. This is the first time that the orchids he put aside for me were actually filled with flowers, and yellow ones at that! From what I can tell, these are mini yellow phalaenopsis, and while similar to the white phalaenopsis plants that have been bloomming every year, the leaves are pointed and the blooms are much smaller and more numerous.

Honestly, I would not have chosen yellow orchids for myself (nor would I purchase any in Israel, they are very expensive) but I actually love the touch of color. So with more orchid babies now in my collection maybe it is actually time to use that orchid fertilizer I bought once and learn a bit more about how to care for them! That said, since they do rebloom a few times a year whatever I'm doing is working, but I do wish the leaves would look a little bit crisper and greener!

Watercolor Mosaic Fruit Cut-Outs Are The Perfect Summer Craft

Yes it is true, watercolor mosaic fruit have stolen my heart, can you blame me? First it was watercolor mosaic strawberries, then watercolor pineapple cutouts, and now watercolor mosaic fruit, like grapes, oranges and lemons! Creating patterns with watercolor is so very relaxing, and when those patterns are random and fill fruit shapes such that they look like mosaic fruit, well I'm sold! And the best part is, you can keep the ones you like, and then simply turn over the paper and paint some more! Cut-outs are wonderful to have on hand for crafting and collaging and art journaling, not to mention to use as gift tags or even cake toppers! So grab an hour or so on a lazy summer afternoon (or burn the midnight oil like me....) and give mosaic watercolor fruit a try!

Watercolor Pineapple Cut-Outs For Summer Party Decor

Looking for a relaxing summer craft that you can use for summer decor, or set aside for some unknown future use? I'd recommend watercolor cut-outs, and in this case pineapples! I've already shared with you watercolor strawberry cutouts and of course, last year I made quite a few watercolor floral cutouts, that are just lovely. So friends, regardless of the quality of watercolor paint you might have on hand, get yourself something that is at the least mixed media paper or inexpensive watercolor paper, and have fun painting and then cutting out the best of the bunch to use in a variety of ways, or to put into an envelope or flat box to be saved and down the road used as gift toppers, collage fodder, you name it!
