Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks for joining me here! Winter has come to Northern Israel, and Chanukah is approaching, so time to get crafting and maybe even making some homemade gifts as well? As is customary for this party i take a break for the month of December in order to avoid holiday confusion, so looking forward to reconnecting in 2025, on Sunday January 5th! Wow, how exactly did that happen? Well, I do actually know how that happened living not far from the Lebanon border, but I won't go into that, instead I am spreading joy and love for creativity! Simple Origami Dreidel Craft For Hanukkah!

Friends, it is time to get crafting for Chanukah, and I recommend this festive and simple origami dreidel craft, it is truly wonderful! While I made these, my 8 year old plus boy crafting students made and decorated these with ease! And of course if neutral colors are more up your alley, so make them from brown kraft paper (not to self!) or metallic paper. However you choose to make them, make a bunch and get decorating, the simplest thing being to clip them onto a string with mini clothes pins, either hung horizontally or vertically, and voila the house is already starting to look like Chanukah! Ready, lets get to it!

Origami Star Of David With Cut Paper Craft

Friends, it is that time of year, meaning time to get crafting for Chanukah, coming in less than a month! And now that cold weather has reached Northern Israel, crafting is the perfect activity to engage in right about now! Origami isn't for everyone, but helping kids (and yourself) stretch your 3D skills just a bit is a very good thing, and once you master the steps involved, it is so very satisfying! And good news, after that possible struggle (not to worry, origami is challenging for many) and the time and patience required, you can then make this origami star of David (magen David) is just 3 minutes or so, and the possibilities for then using these stars for decorating, gift toppers and other crafts are just endless! So time is of the essence, lets get folding!

Note: Depending on the skills of the child, this origami is a bit challenging for any child under say 8, and with my group of boys in the crafting class it was even difficult for some of the ten year olds, so, play it by ear! You could always fold the stars and lets the kids decorate them!

Simple And Festive Hanukkah Crochet Projects

I just dusted this one off from the archives, because now is a great time to start thinking about crocheting for Chanukah! Here is what I originally wrote just as Chanukah was approaching, so getting a head start with this post this year, and you should too!

Crochet projects for Hanukkah? Of course, because as you all know, I love to crochet, and so crocheting has often been a big part of my hanukkah crafting! (Now, I do not have time to crochet with my art explorations, but I have so many things on hand, that we only see once a year, so it is still fresh. Hmmmm, but maybe I need to crochet just a bit tonight for tomorrow's guests?) While tonight is the third night of chanukah that does not mean we can't have fun making things on chanukah to enjoy for the remainder of the holiday, to give as gifts or even save until next year! Here are some of my favorite simple crochet projects from the archives that are perfect for chanukah, try something new, or go get all those old t-shirts and use them to make the basket above, wouldn't it be a miracle of chanukah to clean out that draw a bit? Crocheted No-Seam Baby Cardigan With Bobbles

There is truly nothing quite so adorable as crocheted clothing, hats and booties for a new baby, and believe me, I'm taking advantage of this! After running to the craft store in Jerusalem to buy yarn and then figuring out how to use it (not recommended, by the way!) the first item I crocheted was this wonderful top-down construction bobble baby cardigan with no seams, yippee! This is a great beginner friendly pattern, though I do recommend getting your tension and technique down pat before crocheting clothing, for the best results. And then, when you are ready to crochet a baby sweater, this is a perfect pattern to try, as with double crochet stitches it is somewhat forgiving, and no seams means discrepancies in your tension might not be detectable? Plus the bobble, which is a truly simple stitch brings this sweater to the next level! I love how the sweater looks with cuffed sleaves, but keep reading to see it with sleaves unfolded. Ah yes, and while I chose to make this into a color blocked sweater, if you have some great yarn to show off, go with one color, or just opt to do the trim and tie in a second color. Get a little bit creative to make it extra special and unique to you! Ready to get started? Lets do it!

Thanks so much for joining me here at Craft Schooling Sunday! At long last we have some cooler weather here in Northern Israel, which means it is time to start thinking about crafting for Chanukah! This week I resumed my craft classes with two groups of boys, and yes we are getting busy with chanukah decorations so that they will have many items to bring home once the holiday gets closer, and I will start sharing the results with you soon! It continues to amaze me that it is also possible to craft and talk with the boys about so many interesting things and how much they love to talk and infact do want to go home (though their mothers start calling.....) So friends, if you can, take the time to craft with some kids in your neighborhood and give them the extra attention they very likely need, it is truly an amazing thing! Okay, lets take a look at the features (still a few more to come) from last week's party:

Simple Crocheted Sea Shell Baby Bonnet To Whip Up For The New Baby!

With a new baby in the family I have been crocheted up a storm, well actually the storm has passed as it is now time to get on with other pressing projects, but right after Succot, I took an entire week plus to just relax and crochet! It was truly wonderful, and I'll be sharing all the projects with you, as well as the amazing free patterns that I used for all the items. This sea shell baby bonnet is so great looking, and so simple to whip up, I think I need to have a bunch on hand honestly! Truly, you can whip this up in the car in an hour, so get some yarn print out the pattern and tuck it in your purse! (good advice to self as well....} I made this from some cotton/acrylic blend yarn that maybe isn't the best choice for a newborn, but so it goes, one can't always pick a project, buy the yarn and then crochet, which is the best way to go. In my case I bought the yarn and then looked for projects, which I will not do next time if I can help it, as then the sizes don't quite match up. Meaning the guage is off is your yarn is thicker than that recommended for the project. Keep on reading for the pattern info.....

Simply Great Crocheted Booties With Ties And Optional Cuff

Yippee, now that I've returned to crocheting with a new baby in the family, I also found a great crocheted bootie pattern that is a keeper! Believe me, I have crocheted too many wonky booties in the past, and am now so happy to have found a pattern that actually enabled me to crocheted one pair of great looking booties, with a few customizations of course! So friends, I do recommend trying to crochet booties before you actually need some as a new baby gift, as they are so much fun, but sometimes don't exactly work out according to the pattern. Then again, maybe I just had patterns that weren't so great? In any case, this pattern from maisie and ruth, (without the tie, that is my addition) is a keeper, so lets get to it!
