This craft is just so adorable and so very simple! I've been making these cherries with my crafting students and even children as young as 7 or 8 can easily fold the origami balloon that is needed. And while we've used the idea to make cherries here, you can make just about any fruit using this idea, just change the color of the paper! And if you want to make something that is a bit more pear shaped, to use in one direction as a pear, and another direction as an apple, check out my tutorial coming soon. In the meantime, make square origami fruit and fill up a basket!
You'll Need:
- light weight red paper and small pieces of green for leaves
- twigs for cherry stems, I cut mine off of my rose bush (that anyway needs pruning right now in the dead of winter!)
- hot glue gun
- how to fold an origami balloon tutorial, find the link here.
How To:
- Make small squares from your paper by simply folding one corner over to the other side to form a triangle, and cut off (preferably neatly with a craft knife) or remove extra strip.
- Experiment to see what size paper produces the cherry size that works for you, maybe even giant cherries?
- Make your origami balloon according to the link above.
- Cut out green leaves, find a twig stem, and attach with hot glue.
- Voila, now go make a bunch more!
- For the origami strawberry you are on your own, just google it!
