With the Jewish holiday of L'ag B'Omer coming up in 2 1/2 weeks, now is the time to get crafting, and continuing with last year's woodgrain themed crafts, I'm now going down the path of wood grain, but adding color to the neutral crafts I made last year. And to my surprise, there are so many ways to go with this idea, and it is truly fun and relaxing! The resulting sheets of colorful wood grain pattern can then be used in journaling, scrapbooking and in my case crafts! So lets do it as we get ready for L'ag B'Omer, ah yes and you could also use them as place mats!
- colored paper, mine is printer paper weight because that is what I have on hand, heavier weight might be a better choice
- markers, both black and colored, I used permanent markers, but YUK that toxic odor
- colored pencils, regular and my all time favorite Stabilo Woodies (that are water soluble)
How To:
- Using a medium tipped marker, draw a woodgrain pattern on the piece of paper, making sure all lines go off the the top and bottom edges. Try to go for variety, and more uneven spaces than mine here, which admittedly are a little bit too regular. (I'll work on that next time!)
- Fill in eyes of the woodgrain and thicken some of the lines here and there for variety and depth. Alternately, use two pens, one finer and one medium sized tip from the getgo.
- Now it is time to add color (if you wish) which I have to say is just so very fun, and no need to go crazy! After using the Stabilo woodies it is hard to tell what the base color of the paper is, and the color transforms the design.
- If you use Stabilo woodies or water soluble colored pencils, you can now blend/dilute the colors by running a damp cloth over the work, wonderful! I truly can't say enough about Stabilo woodies, having not used them in quite awhile, and now once again, they are just fabulous truly.
Got it? Now run, don't walk, and make yourself a whole pile of woodgrain paper, as we'll be needing them next week for crafting!
