Above: The picture ledges in my kitchen "gallery" are adorned with a collection of wood and wicker, which I love, though truly must get back to the art, hmmmm, maybe the art will be hung elsewhere?
While Passover itself is just 7 days long here in Israel, the month or at least 2-3 weeks before the holiday are spent preparing with a few good days afterwards getting everything back to normal, phew! One of the wonderful things about a blog is that it becomes a diary of sorts, and for me a great place to make my yearly list regarding which things I might need/want to buy for next year's Passover extravaganza!
This year I actually treated myself to a new set of trendy vintage floral dishes in green and white, which was so nice, but those will now be used throughout the year, so I'll just have to think about whether to settle for my two mismatched sets of dishes next year, or not? Maybe next year we'll have cloth napkins instead and I'll use my grandmothers actual silver place settings, as the seder table is supposed to be the most elegant table of the year! I don't think I'll have the guts to use the silver year round, as it is just too valuable, so maybe using it for Passover is a great option, and yes, before any garbage is taken out one MUST count all the silver and make sure every piece is accounted for. Okay, lets get started with that list!
• I now have new crocheted afikomen bag, need to sew lining to inside and photograph to share on the blog!
• We have clear plastic for kitchen table
• Blender was not used much and taking up valuable space in the Pesach cabinets, so now it is in year round, where it also may not be used much? Of course if is is not used, it can still return to the Pesach cabinet next year.
• Buy another non-electric hand grating machine for 60 shekels, it was very handy, (especially for grinding nuts!) is now a year round item.
• Now have rectangular grill pan, very handy for grilling peppers and eggplant slices, but NOT red peppers, too much time
• Buy dairy frying pan, we bought one but need it year round
• Now have medium sized nice meat frying pan, for a big crowd a larger size might be useful in the future for breakfast and matza brie.
• Buy drinking glasses (i took them for year round use)
• Buy a shnitzel mallet
• Send large toaster oven that has always been terrible for baking and this year didn't work at all in the end, for repairs
• Cloth napkins for seder? Truthfully, with all the fabric I have in storage, (I'm thinking about a plum colored toile, hmmmm) maybe I can make them!
• Don't forget to buy natural orange juice to make popsicles for the neighbor kids, one of whom showed up on the last day of the holiday to ask for the popsicles, but we totally forgot about the yearly tradition, and I promised the boy I'd remind myself by writing it on this list!
• Now have enough dish towels (took grey ones from year round to add to collection)
• Have dairy spatulla,
• Have enough cutting boards, drains and squeegies for counters
• Buy disposable containers to freeze things while cooking for Passover
• Only have 1 or maybe 2 smallish knives, (and a bunch of useless ones) Buy a large knife
In conclusion: Buy large knife, meat frying pan, shnitzel mallet, glasses, hand grating machine, and disposable containers, got it?
Ah yes, PLEASE work on removing stains from family heirloom woven lace tablecloth! (We use a hard plastic cover over the tablecloth, and i've been hiding the stains more or less, but time to try ti get rid of those stains, I think with hydrogen peroxide......)
That is all for now!
