While today (Sunday) is the last day of Passover everywhere in the world except in Israel, our holiday has now ended and so first thing this morning I watered the orchids in the sink, though I additionally spritz them with water every weekday morning as well as the kettle is warming up! This particular pot that holds two plants, that I've had for about 4 years, always comes through with long and stunning bunches or white orchids, what last for at least three months, so all the extra attention is well worth it! Keep on reading for more background to this story....
I happen to have a whole living room full of orchids that were rescued over the years by a family friend who tends to gorgeous gardens in Tel Aviv. Half dead orchids are either left outside or given to him, and he then passes them on to me! I'll admit, the first time, in which the above plant was included, I really did not know how to revive many of the plants he gave me, but now, having been at it for a few years, I have more knowledge and am able to revive almost all of the poor parched and wilted plants, yippee! Of course it takes lots of patience, as for example the plants I received in the late summer last year (after I'm guessing being on display for the holiday of Shavuot) are now looking much better, and many of them have flower stalks, though not all are actually well enough to bring those flowers to a bloom, interestingly enough.
So my friends, if someone begs you to take an old sick orchid, take it and try to nurse it back to health by asking google what to do! And if you get a crate full of orchids like I do every year or so, be fearless, it is truly rewarding.
