Crocheted T-Shirt Yarn Pears Are So Much Fun!

I have been living with these fun crocheted pears for a year and a half or so, and I can surely report they are just so very charming! And wouldn't a crocheted pear from t-shirt yarn be a great baby gift, it would look soooo cute in a baby's room, or just about anywhere. So with the Jewish holiday of Tu B'Shevat, the new year for fruit baring trees, coming up in just a week, now is a great time to crochet fruit, and while you are at it, why not go with giant fruit!  Here is my original post:

I have been wanting to crochet a pear for ages, partly to go with my daughter's pirum parum poster, and partly because who can resist a crocheted pear? And who can resist a crocheted pear that is big enough to be a pillow or couch prop, certainly not me, and I am truly in love with the results of taking a regular crocheted pear pattern and using t-shirt yarn to make it something different altogether, yippee! So, as you can see, once you start crocheting pears from t-shirt yarn you really have to crochet at least three, as they look just so amazing together, right? I was crocheting that black pear on a car trip with my husband and he had no idea what I was up to, and only saw the results when I gave it to him as a chanukah present......of course he didn't appreciate my efforts, but that is okay, I didn't really crochet it for him, but rather as some fun decor for our bedroom or any little spot in the house in need of some giant fruit! Okay friends, lets get crocheting......

Crocheted Spare Tire Cover To Advertise Your Love For Crochet!

Isn't this crocheted spare tire cover a fun jeep accessory? Especially great for a summer vacation vibe, or in a beach town, which is where I spotted this one, namely in Pacifica, California in a mobile home park with the most coveted views ever! This car came all the way from Ohio to enjoy this spot! A crocheted spare tire cover is essentially a round doily with sides,  and could be made using so many patterns. One could also make a cover by crocheting hexigons or circles and then joining those, meaning it doens't have to be something crocheted in the round! I love that this one is airy, less yarn and less dust and dirt to worry about, and less time to make! Okay, I just googles crocheted spare tire cover, and wow, my head is spinning with all the ideas, and one can even purchase them on Etsy, so this look isn't only for those who can make one themselves. Hmmmm, now I think I need a jeep so I can crochet one myself?

Crochet A Cat Cave Or Cat Bed With A Free Pattern!

Is there a cat lover on your gift list that you'd like to treat with a fantastic DIY crocheted cat cave or bed? I'd say it is a great idea, as even if the cat doesn't quite end up liking it, it can always be used as a basket of sorts! (Especially the acorn shaped one I'm eyeing!) Fun Crocheted Bathmat With T-Shirt Yarn

Ready to crochet the cutest little bathmat you ever did see in just a few hours? This quick t-shirt yarn crocheted bathmat is such a fun project that you'll want to make a bunch to always have a clean one one hand. Simply toss it into the laundry when soiled and you'll always have a sweet crocheted touch in your bathroom.Or if you decide to go with colors that one wouldn't describe as "sweet" but rather rustic, or even bold and modern, that could be great too! Try some of those daring color combos like millenial pink and dark green or any variety of rusts and mustards that you might not want to experiment with elsewhere, and enjoy! This stitch pattern certainly lends itself to an interesting color application of any kind, and with t-shirt yarn it works up quickly, so if you don't like it, just rip it out. Another great thing about t-shirt yarn, versus acrylic or wool yarn, is that you can tear out old projects and the yarn is just as good as ever!

Ah yes, and since gift giving season is approaching, this would be an amazing handmade gift together with some gorgeous soap or a set of matching towels, so go for it!

Golden Fig Leaf Garland

Golden fig leaf garlands, or golden leaf garlands of any kind of leaf are simple to whip up and look amazing. I choose to use fig and olive leaves for this garland to represent 2 of the 7 holy species, but you can of course do what works for you! Golden monstera leaves would look amazing as home decor, or party decor or in a child's room, right? But right now, of course we need to think about the succah and this is a relatively quick craft with great results, so get some heavy weight gold paper, or light weight gold cardboard, or some cereal box cardboard that you'll paint, and get to work! That empty wall in your succah could use a few of these garlands, and voila, you'll be so happy you spent the extra effort! Okay, lets do this! DIY Boho Fringed Placemats For Summer Entertaining

I have pulled this post out of the archives because it is a keeper, and I'm still enjoying my DIY boho place mats, which are great indoors or outdoors, and perfect for that little extra something this summer! Enjoy! And I just had the thought that these could also be great for the Succah, so why not plan ahead!

I love t-shirt yarn, and have been thinking about using it for macrame and embroidery, not just crocheting! Industrial-waste t-shirt yarn also supports eco-consciousness, as it is made from odds and ends of fabric left after the pieces for making clothing is cut from the yardage. What I found after making these fringed and embroidered place mats/wall hangings is that t-shirt yarn is a great way to add color to a project that might have called for rope of some kind, and it works great for fringe, tassels (see my t-shirt yarn tassels) and more. So if you're looking for a simple and stylish summer project, this is it! These place mats work great placed on round side tables or outdoor tables or anywhere to add some flare our protect a wooden surface. Ah yes, and of course you can easily make some wall hangings, which I truly am going to do as I have a bunch more of these place mats to craft with!

Sunburst Granny Square Meets Color, Thanks To A Reader!

There is just something about a great color combination together with a wonderful crocheted granny square that makes my heart sing! I can't say I've had the time or inclination to crochet much lately (of course I did crochet doll clothes, and need to do a spring outfit pronto...yikes!) because, well, one can't do it all, and I'm putting most of my creative time into painting and art related endeavors. To see a reader, @hardknotlifecrochet,  take my sunburst granny square (available for purchase on my etsy store here) and give it color was such a wonderful surprise, I just had to share it with you!

When I designed this granny square, and used it to make a scarf, my yarn choice was black and white and gray, and unlike many of the items I've crocheted over the years, I did actually wear that scarf, but now maybe next winter deserves a new version in some earthy tones? Or maybe a baby blanket with this square.....? So many wonderful ways to fill our creative souls, and bring joy to others with crochet, and I do plan to continue doing just that, on a small scale, you know with doll clothes! A Fun Crochet Meets Plastic Basket For Spring

I just found this in my archives, and thought I'd post it again, as it is a great one! Any container with holes can be spiffied up with some t-shirt yarn and a crochet hook, so when you do your spring cleaning.......I just remembered I put something in the recycling pile that could be upcycled, good thing I'm taking my own advice! Enjoy!

Spring is here which means it is time to get started with the Spring/Pesach organizing and cleaning......but first of course as I was recovering from a very festive Purim I spied a cute little basket with holes in it, that could be much more useful if one could not see what is inside, for me the hoarder that is! So I present to you a quick crocheted spring basket using an existing plastic basket with holes, an idea that can be used on many types of plastic baskets!

And yes, to make this project "quick" one does need the proper supplies, namely yarn and hook sizes that are large, so keep on reading for those oh so important tips, since right about now time is of the essence.......well at least on my end!

Hello Prague: Huge Crochet Applique Mural

One of the amazing visual treats that we experienced in Prague last year, was in fact a treat within a treat, though that describes just about everything in Prague, what a city! On our visit to Vysrehard, see  my post here, not only were there amazing views and ancient history, but also the biggest yarn bombing installation I've ever seen! Ever seen a crocheted mural, constructed on a base of recycled sweaters? Me neither, so I was very excited to capture this and share it with you. I'm not sure how many years something like this can hold up, especially in a place with cold winters, so if you decide to do something similar, I'd hang it in a way that it can be removed come rain and such. All this wonderful crocheted art is both a sign and an eye catcher at a place called Indigo Kids, which is a kindergarten.
