Crochet T-shirt Yarn Pears For Fun Home Decor

I have been living with these fun crocheted pears for a year and a half or so, and I can surely report they are just so very charming! And wouldn't a crocheted pear from t-shirt yarn be a great baby gift, it would look soooo cute in a baby's room, or just about anywhere. So with the Jewish holiday of Tu B'Shevat, the new year for fruit baring trees, coming up in just a week, now is a great time to crochet fruit, and while you are at it, why not go with giant fruit!  Here is my original post:

I have been wanting to crochet a pear for ages, partly to go with my daughter's pirum parum poster, and partly because who can resist a crocheted pear? And who can resist a crocheted pear that is big enough to be a pillow or couch prop, certainly not me, and I am truly in love with the results of taking a regular crocheted pear pattern and using t-shirt yarn to make it something different altogether, yippee! So, as you can see, once you start crocheting pears from t-shirt yarn you really have to crochet at least three, as they look just so amazing together, right? I was crocheting that black pear on a car trip with my husband and he had no idea what I was up to, and only saw the results when I gave it to him as a chanukah present......of course he didn't appreciate my efforts, but that is okay, I didn't really crochet it for him, but rather as some fun decor for our bedroom or any little spot in the house in need of some giant fruit! Crocheted Newborn Baby Bear Hat And Booties

And once you've got the pattern down, you can surely crochet these in the car on the way to visit the newborn, or in my case, on the way to the brit! Well not these exact booties, but I have been know to crochet an entire sweater in the car, mind you I had a few hours. Crocheted booties are a fun little gift, a great way to add a homemade touch to a large gift, and something one can make to use up little odds and ends of yarn as they take very little! This hat is of course a winter hat, though one can use chunky cotton for a summer version that would be equally adorable. Crocheted Mini-Mandala With Star Center Pattern

With Hanukkah in just a week, I have been a bit busy whipping up some quick crocheted mini mandalas with a 6-pointed star center. Using pastel-colored t-shirt yarn, this mini mandalas work up quickly, and in just three rows you have something you could use as a coaster, or possibly as part of a decorative garland, mobile, or wall hanging. The jury is still out regarding how I'll be using these, but hopefully I'll figure something out very soon, and share the results with you. Truthfully just hanging these little crocheted circles from my dining room chandelier would do the trick, or maybe combining them with some pom poms, beads or tassels. Hmmm, all those ideas sound good, now just waiting for the inspiration!

And just by the way, of course this pattern can be used with any yarn, but you'll need quite a few more rounds than three to get something that is the size of a coaster, just sayin'.

Crocheted Lacy Toddler Sweater Works Up Quickly

Crocheting for little ones is a great way to satisfy that need to crochet something without going overboard time -wise or yarn wise! And when you make something like this crocheted lacy toddler sweater the size doesn't have to be exact, as a garment like this can be worn several ways, namely on the small side as a bolero, or on the larger side as a sweater. And so, that my friends is how the double crochet placket, neckline and border were born! And really, as long as you have some finished measurements to go by, you really can play around and invent your own sweaters, be brave!

Crocheted Top-Down Toddler Dress With A Lacy Skirt

One of the most pleasurable things to crochet is clothing for babies and toddlers, as garments can be made relatively quickly and the results are truly adorable. Lacy crocheted items for babies is something that could truly be useful and appreciated especially for a special occasion......and one could even crochet gorgeous little flower girl dresses, or at least shrugs or sweaters for a bunch of little darlings. Now, of course most of us use patterns to crochet, but I am now here to encourage you to crochet custom made garments by simply using the measurements of the child! It is true, there may be a few spots where you have to add a stitch or two that would normally not appear in a commercial pattern but I promise, no one will notice! And that dear readers is how this sweet little dress came about....... a sketch with some measurements taken from an existing garment, and a crochet diagram for inspiration, and voila!

Crocheted Patchwork Starburst Baby Blanket: A Reader's Version!

One of the joys of blogging is knowing that you've inspired someone else to add some creativity to their life, and with tangible evidence! i just love it when readers send me photos of things they've made using my patterns, or inspired by my projects, and this week I was particularly thrilled to find photos of this crocheted starburst baby blanket in my in box! My original crocheted starburst blanket is the perfect pattern to adapt to a baby blanket size, and is also a great project for crocheters of all levels.

This blanket was made by Gittel of Albany, New York a mother of nine! When I told her how amazed I was that she has time to crochet she mentioned that all of her children are actually married now and she is a grandmother of 50! Can you imagine that? I pointed her in the direction of some of my quick baby sweater patterns as well, as there is certainly no shortage of recipients for whom to crochet!
