A Fun Crochet Meets Plastic Basket For Spring

I just found this in my archives, and thought I'd post it again, as it is a great one! Any container with holes can be spiffied up with some t-shirt yarn and a crochet hook, so when you do your spring cleaning.......I just remembered I put something in the recycling pile that could be upcycled, good thing I'm taking my own advice! Enjoy!

Spring is here which means it is time to get started with the Spring/Pesach organizing and cleaning......but first of course as I was recovering from a very festive Purim I spied a cute little basket with holes in it, that could be much more useful if one could not see what is inside, for me the hoarder that is! So I present to you a quick crocheted spring basket using an existing plastic basket with holes, an idea that can be used on many types of plastic baskets!

And yes, to make this project "quick" one does need the proper supplies, namely yarn and hook sizes that are large, so keep on reading for those oh so important tips, since right about now time is of the essence.......well at least on my end!

Crocheted Hanukkah Gelt Pouch, A Reader's Version Of My Free Pattern

One of the greatest pleasure of blogging is seeing proof that people actually use my patterns, yippee! Susan, a blogger from Organized 31 (who grew up in Hawaii and told me that they always rooted their pineapple tops in soil) wanted to make a gift for the children of a friend that celebrates Hanuukah, and she knew just where to look. I love her version of my simple crocheted Hanukkah pouch and thought I'd share it with you, especially since I just became aware of it having posted a roundup from my archives of Crochet Patterns For Hanukkah!

Crocheted pouches for Hanukkah are a family tradition in our house, and I make new ones every year for the whole family and any extended family who may be celebrating with us. I fill the bags with chocolate coins and little prizes and everyone knows that is what they'll find when they unwrap their gift on the first night of Hanukkah. With the holiday in just 10 days, now would be a good time to start crocheting, but I won't get to it for another two or so days as I'm still working on some editorial content......which you'll see soon hopefully.

SIMPLE CROCHETED GIFT POUCHES

Crocheted gift pouches are the perfect little something to whip up during the holiday season, so I've pulled some of my projects from the archives to give you some inspiration. I have been known to crochet little projects like this in the car to give upon arrival, so you certainly can too, especially if you have a few good hours!

Gather up some odds and ends from your stash and some hooks in a few sizes too, and with my patterns to boot, you're all set. And even if you don't complete the little pouches on the way, little ones especially would delight in seeing you whip something up just for them once you get there! Crocheting and spending time with friends and family are a great combo as you can crochet and catch up at the same time, right?

Crocheted Striped Gift Pouch For Your Favorite Toddler!

When you are giving a beloved two year old his first little yellow dump truck and tractor, what can you quickly crochet to go along with the gift? Well how about a striped grey and yellow crocheted gift pouch with a drawstring tie (that looks like a road) to hold a collection of something cute......in this case some fun little figures that he can load onto that dump truck, and or course, since it is chanukah I also included some chocolate money and a few dreidels as well. And the fun thing about this pouch is that it stands on its own and is big enough to truly serve as a great toy keeper and organizer!

Granny Medallion Crocheted Gift Pouches!

Last Thursday night I did manage to crochet four granny medallion gift pouches for the little ones for Hanukkah! I used chunky yarn and mostly double crochet to make the drawstring crocheted pouches as quickly as I could! It's a little tradition that I've started, and I've told my children that we'll save them each year and then they'll have pouches to use with their kids. Unless of course my future daughter in laws are crocheters? Time will tell, and in the mean time, it's a little tradition from the heart that I'm very happy I've started, and a great excuse to fit a little fun crocheting into my busy schedule!

Crocheted Rag Bag From Sheets

Crocheting with sheets is just so much fun, that while I'm actually in the middle of crocheting a rag rug I just couldn't resist going off on a little tangent and crocheting my first ever crocheted tote bag from sheets and pillowcases. I have to say, I'm thrilled with how it turned out, and for now it's going to stay right on that hook so that I can enjoy looking at it next to our kitchen table!

Crocheted Gelt Bags For Chanukah!

Phew, I did it, Chanukah is tonight and I did get around to crocheting little gelt (coins) bags for my young ones. Truthfully giving gelt is really the Chanukah tradition of yore, the idea of giving presents only really snuck in on account of the Dec. 25th holiday, so I realized that the first night of Chanukah would not be complete without these little bags to hold the chocolate coins we traditionally give every Chanukah. (The rest of the year my kids are somewhat chocolate deprived, so they really look forward to this one!)

Handmade Holiday: Crocheted Gift Pouches

These crocheted pouches that I posted about as bags for Hanukkah gelt, here, were such a success I just had to make more! A birthday party for my daughter's friend, no problem, let's give her a pouch filled with some small gifts! And a few buttons added to the end of the drawstring are cute and functional...the string wont fall out! I think I even made the one on the right in about an hour, and it not only made my daughter happy and set a good example for giving handmade, it also was satisfying for me and fulfilled some of my need to create!

Handmade Holiday: Crochet Striped Pouches For Gelt and Gifts!

 

If you happen to be paying attention I guess you've already figured out that I got bitten by the crochet bug! Sorry about that for those of you who don't crochet, but maybe you'll learn and join in on the fun? You are really missing out, believe me! And it's definitely a lot easier than learning to ski or play the piano I'd say....plus you can practice any time....in the car, in line, during a commute on the train.....and then, instead of practicing during those times, you'll eventually be able to crochet something!

From A Simple Crocheted (& Felted) Square: A Sweet Envelope Or A Potholder!

Need a little something handmade to show you care? Want to practice crocheting and have something to show for your efforts? Looking for a little project that will fulfill an immediate need to craft? (That was me, by the way, which is how this came about!) When the idea struck, I quickly crocheted this square from 100% wool yarn while trying to feed my kids dinner Saturday night. I wanted to finish the square in time to throw it in the laundry with the day's load of darks, in order to felt it a bit. Sounds like fun? It is!
