I am really so overjoyed that my idea of using my little scrappy yarn ball to make a shag rug for a doll house actually worked, yippee! And of course you don't need a doll house, it is fun as is with some little figures. We'll very likely be using this rug and the other two I've promised to make to furnish some shoebox houses that my boys made in school as part of a unit about electricity.

My ten year old loved this so much he even started asking the neighbors for their potato sacks, whaddya know. And I think I'll make as many as I can and give them as little gifts, which though you may be raising an eyebrow, will be greatly appreciated as we do not use sponges on shabbat, but this is permitted. Plus, it just happens to be really cute, especially on account of the red bag (that held red potatos) and the space-dyed yarn.

DIY T-Shirt Yarn Is The Perfect Way To Do Spring Cleaning!

While you are cleaning out those closets, do put aside some of your kids old t-shirts, as well as anything made from jersey fabric, like undershirts, and collared polo shirts, to make your own t-shirt yarn! If you stumble across a sheet made from jersey fabric while you're cleaning out the linen closet, you've struck gold! (Just by the way, jersey fabric is knit fabric, like that used to make underwear, t-shirts, and other items.)

What does any obsessed crafter do in the middle of her intense top to bottom house cleaning in preparation for the holiday of Passover? Why of course, she gathers up all those old shirts that she wouldn't want her kids to be caught wearing out of the house, and she uses them to make t-shirt yarn. A great reason to take a break from all that cleaning and much needed organizing, right? And who knows, once you start using the yarn you've made you may need to clean out some more closets and drawers to find some more t-shirts for the cause, and that would be considered cleaning, right?

Making Yarn From Sheets For Crocheting & Knitting!

Does making yarn from old sheets that you find in your linen closet qualify as Spring cleaning? It sure does in my book, ha ha! I opened my son's closet and the first thing I saw were a small pile of vintage comforter covers that sat in the attic for a good five years, and in one closet or another for another year or so. So at long last cutting them up into yarn is certainly a good thing to do, especially when there are much greater tasks to accomplish. But hey, those greater tasks can wait, those sheets were calling my name at long last!

It is with great joy that I can finally share with you the great news that my latest crocheted rag rug from sheets has been completed. Yippee! Crocheting rugs from sheets pillowcases and the like is really so very satisfying— so much so that I can't wait to start the next rug!  This rug is for my boy's room and I love the fact that it looks like something from space or sea....an mix between a fiery sun and and the deep blue ocean?

Crocheting with sheets is just so much fun, that while I'm actually in the middle of crocheting a rag rug I just couldn't resist going off on a little tangent and crocheting my first ever crocheted tote bag from sheets and pillowcases. I have to say, I'm thrilled with how it turned out, and for now it's going to stay right on that hook so that I can enjoy looking at it next to our kitchen table!
