You'll Need:
- Lion Brand Cotton in five colors, available in Israel at livyahyarn.com
- Appropriately sized crochet hook, like a J or H
- Ribbon or cord to use as a drawstring, or crochet one!
How To:
This is a simple little pattern that I made up myself. The finished dimensions, when flat are roughly 5" wide by 6" high. I'm writing it in very simple mostly not abbreviated instructions to make it more user friendly! The abbreviation sc means single crochet. Enjoy and let me know if you use it!
Crochet a chain of 4, and join with a slip stitch
To make a flat circle for the bottom of the pouch:
Rnd 1: Using Color A, crochet 9 sc stitches into the loop, join with a slip stitch to first single crochet
Rnd 2: crochet 2 sc into each stitch from the previous round, join with a slip stitch
Rnd 3: *crochet 2 sc into first stitch, 1 sc into 2nd stitch*, continue like this around the circle.
Rnd 4: *crochet 2sc into first stitch, 1 sc into 2nd and 3rd stitches*, continue like this around the circle
For a bigger pouch, continue adding more rows in this way, skipping one more stitch between the increases (2 stitches in one stitch) for each row you add. Got it? That's how you crochet a flat circle....
For the sides of the pouch, continuing with Color A
Rnd 5: Single crochet around, in the back loop of the stitch only, join with a slip stitch
Rnds 6 and 7: Single crochet around, crocheting into both loops as usual
Rnds 8and 9: Join Color B and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnds 10 and 11: Join Color C and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnds 12 and 13: Join Color D and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnds 14 and 15: Join Color E and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnds 16 and 17: Join Color A and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnds 18 and 19: Join Color B and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnd 20: To make row for inserting drawstring: Join Color C and double crochet around,
Rnd 21 and 22: Join Color D and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnd 23 and 24: Join Color E and single crochet around, joining row to first sc with a slip stitch
Rnd 25: Finish off with a pico stitch edge: *sc, chain 3, sc in same stitch, skip a stitch, continue in this way around and join to first stitch with a slip stitch. Weave in any ends with a large-eyed needle.
Weave ribbon or cord through the row of double crochet and tie in a bow. Use the same ribbon to make a handle, or a long strap if desired. You can also crochet a long strap by crocheting a row of double crochet on a foundation chain. (You might like to anchor the ribbon at it's midpoint with a few stitches with a thread and needle if this gift is for a child....that way the ribbon won't get pulled out and lost....by the sweet little one!)
