Hello Prague: The Astronomical Clock On The Old Town City Hall

Continuing our tour of Prague, I now present to you, one of the top tourist attractions in Prague, the Astronomical clock! Between you and me, yes it is very old and significant, a great work of craftmanship and beautiful, but given everything else Prague has to offer, hmmmm, this clock is way down on my list of things to see. But hey, it is part of the Old Town City Hall, that is a must, so take a look at the clock, on your way in, and if you can, do plan to be there for the little show of figures on the hour, (the walk of the apostles) but don't sweat it if you can't, (don't tell anyone I said that) you can always see the fun musical clock in Central Park NYC, where you can see the entire figures, or witness it on video, just sayin. Because dear readers Prague is AMAZING and with so much to see, waiting around is not the wisest choice, then again there is a Starbucks right next door, and lots of entertainment in the Old Town Square, so you decide.

The Prague Astronomical Clock, or Prague Orlo is a medieval astronomical clock, first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still operating. That is seriously antique, wow. Okay, maybe you should wait around to see the little figures after all? While you are waiting, lets take a closer look at this special clock!

Hello Prague: View From The Old Town Hall Tower

  Our trip to Prague a full year ago is still fresh in our minds and hearts, as truthfully Prague is amazing. And while it seems that Prague hasn't been really discovered by all those west of the Czech republic, it has been discovered by many, and is not a destination to consider during the summer when I've read it is packed to the gills. Our trip was in October, and there were still quite a few tourists, but it was totally bearable and I was cringing to think of this amazing place even more crowded that it was during the Fall. As you can see from my photos in this post, we did have overcast weather, and some rain, but not cool temperatures. I'd say visit Prague during coat weather, but not glove and scarf weather, to avoid the crowds and enjoy! There is sooooo much to see, and we barely skimmed the top of the iceberg with our week or so long stay, but one of my very favorite places was the Old City Hall located in the famous Old Town square, and the vlewing gallery from the top with stunning views had our jaws dropping. I have really never seen anything quite like it. All we kept saying was wow! Come join me for a little taste of wow, as we view Prague from the top of the Old Town Clock Tower, no coats required this time!

Hello Prague: The Certovka Canal

The Certovka Canal or Certovka Channel, take your pick, is just one little picturesque spot in the big picturesque picture of the city of Prague, in the Czech Republic. Prague took by breath away with practically every step, and given that I happen to be a little hard to please when it comes to visual stimulation, well that says a lot. Prague may not be for everyone, but I can't stop raving about it, even a year after our trip! This sweet little canal is something I would love to explore more when I hopefully make it back to Prague, and at that point I would like to take a little boat cruise down the canal. Simply said, there is sooooo much to see in Prague, and even a week is not nearly enough, so we didn't even have time for a little walk on the manmade island of Kampa, whose construction formed this canal, let alone a boat ride......These photos were taken from the end of the Charles Bridge, which passes over the canal, come let's take a closer look!

Hello Prague: The Historic Charles Bridge

Almost exactly one year ago my daughter, my daughter in law, and I had the great pleasure of a 9 days in Prague girl's get together, which was an incredible experience, not to mention a very photogenic one! I really didn't know all that much about Prague before our trip, and did most of my learning once there via the amazing brochures and booklets available at the tourist information office. I'm embarrassed to say that before planning our trip I had never even heard of the Charles Bridge, nor much about Prague except that it is the burial place of the Maharal of Prague, a famous Jewish figure. Boy was I in for a surprise, as Prague has an extensive Jewish history, with lots to see and learn, and the city itself is stunning with sooooooo much to do. The red roofs, the many opportunities for stunning views, and the wooden souvenirs, and more wooden souvenirs, be still my heart! An Uber trip across town is as little as $3, so you can walk until you drop, and then call a car! Speaking of walking, lets take a little walk across the historic Charles Bridge, that crosses the Vltava river, from Old Town to the Prague Castle shall we?

Hello Prague: The Gorgeous Bridges Of Prague

At long last I have found the time to share with you photos of our trip to Prague, which happened LAST Rosh HaShana, for a glorious 9 days! Yes, indeed a whole year ago and I'm just now going over the photos......life is busy and editing photos can happen anytime (unlike somethings that need attention immediately), so just glad that is it finally happening! And I'm thinking that a bit of arm chair travel would be great for everyone right about now, so I'll be dedicating many posts to sharing photos of our trip.

Truthfully looking at the photos now is so inspiring and I can't believe we actually visited such a picturesque place. That same feeling was with us during out entire stay, and our jaws were dropping daily as we explored this amazingly picturesque city in the Czech Repubilc. The entire country of Korea seems to have discovered Prague, as that is the third language on signs (yes, really!) but it really doesn't get the recognition it deserves, given how gorgeous it is, with so much history, and interest, not to mention very inexpensive for those visiting from outside the country. Like any large city, Prague does have its seediness, and one needs to watch out for pick pockets apparently, but other than that it is relatively safe, so I read. As always, do your own research to make sure any destination is suited to your likes and dislikes.....but Prague, ahhhh.

Where to start when sharing photos of such a photogenic adventure is often the question, so I decided to share with you photos of the bridges of Prague, since there are many joining the two majors portions of the central city, and I hope that these will be bridges that lead you to exciting new creative adventures, on canvas paper or in any medium that you enjoy. Just as soon as I finish writing this I'm running to my sketchbook!
