Last week at crafting a future, my group of boys charged ahead with the popsicle stick bow and skewer arrows craft, and even showed me a trick or two, which greatly enhanced this project! Truthfully, I thought they'd make arrows without bows, as I hadn't come up with any great was to make a bow with the supplies I had on hand. But just in case, I got out some popsicle sticks, and suggested that one could make a bow with them, and whatya know, you can actually make quite a nice bow with popsicle sticks!
Now of course, this bow is for decoration only, but would look great on any wall!
You'll Need:
- Popsicle sticks, ours were already colored
- hot glue gun (manned by an adult)
- electrical tape
- DIY skewer arrows, made with this tutorial.
How To: Assemble popsicle sticks, using hot glue, according to the photo, such that there's a spot in the middle section for the arrow. Don't glue it all together until you put the arrow in that spot! My students broke the popsicle sticks for the small segments, but you can cut them with garden shears if you have some!
When the student who made this bow and arrow made that huge arrow head, with electric tape and red paper, I thought it was a bit out of scale, but magically, once it was all assembled that huge arrowhead looks amazing, sort of forming a large triangle, if you get what I mean.
In this case the string for the bow was made with a folded strip of paper, but you can use real string or a pipecleaner instead.
